2nd Trimester

Anyone else not in the holiday spirit?

For me its probably becasue we did not put up decorations and there is now snow here...

I am excited to see my family (14 hours) away and excited to DD to have Christmas but other than that I am just not into it...

I am also sitting at home after a big fight with DH and DD is in Chicago already with our family...

and I have to work everyday next week...

Bah!

Re: Anyone else not in the holiday spirit?

  • I am struggling this year as well. I'm not home with my family, which is ok I suppose since I like my in-laws, but I just miss my mom when I don't see her for Christmas. Also, my MIL can never seem to get around to even putting up the Christmas tree, so I'm really struggling with feeling in the holiday mood when there isn't even a tree a week before Christmas!!

  • I am right there with you...

Between working retail, moving to a new house, and being absolutely broke because of moving to the new house, I am nowhere near being in the holiday spirit.  I just want Christmas to be over, and to be able to relax again.  Especially since we will be able to find out the sex of our baby on January 2nd :)

  • I've been too exhausted to be in the holiday spirit, but I am looking forward to Friday, I'll have 4 days off for the holiday, but I had to work the last 5 days and only get tomorrow off and then have to work the next 4. I haven't even been into a mall this whole Christmas season or done any holiday shopping at a store. My side of the family does secrete Santa so I only have one person to buy for (best idea ever!) For DH's side of the family I've been buying online. Really just want to avoid crowds, at least for this year. I know next year I'll be heading to the mall, gotta take lo to see Santa. I expect to be much more in the spirit next year.
    Little one is here.
  • I have always been full of Christmas spirit, but last year I was so caught up with work and moving our house that I didn't get into it and barely did any baking whatsoever.  Christmas was just such a let down compared to the essentially two-month celebration I normally have.

This year we're more settled and I have my Christmas spirit back - I've been baking like crazy with all this second-tri energy!

I can say that it would not have felt like Christmas for me unless we had a tree up - if I were you and didn't put up any decorations I would be in the same boat having difficulty drumming up excitement.

  • Yeah, I have been pretty 'meh' on Christmas. Between a ton of work and just feeling exhausted when I get home we were barely able to put up any decorations until this week. Christmas just is not the same without the christmas beers.
  • Yeah, I know what you mean. I definitely think that this weird heat wave that New England (where we live) has been going through since fall has made everything seem a lot less Christmasy. When you're buying you're Christmas tree and it's 60* out when it's supposed to be *35, it's hard to get those holiday feelings + DH's job always makes it really hard for us to visit family - they usually make him work Christmas Eve Day and the day after Christmas, so we have to do a lot of complicated scheming to be able to see anyone.

  • I feel the same. No tree or decorations up. Just not into Christmas this yr. I need to get myself into the store to buy a present for DS. I do not even have the strength and spirit to celebrate new year.
  • I was just telling a co-worker this is the most un-christmassy I've ever felt. We did get the tree up early and lights outside, but to be honest after it was done all I thought was ok glad that's done :p
