DD has been having a lot of skin problems lately with her face (acne followed by severe dryness). We called the doc yesterday and the nurse thought it sounded like she may have eczema and suggested using eucerin on her dry face. Her ears have been especially dry and crusty looking. I noticed this evening that her ears are wet behind them. There is no visible sore or wound but I think it is pus. My husband says her ears smelled bad last night. Obviously I am concerned but I'm not sure if I should wait until Monday morning to call the doctor or call the on-call pedi this weekend. She has slept literally all day except for feedings but I believe that's due to a growth spurt. Anyone familiar with this skin issue and WWYD regarding calling the doc?
Re: Dry skin, pus behind ears
As an adult with eczema, I too have been concerned that my girls will have the same skin issues. LO is very "peely" as I like to say! Her skin is just peeling away and I don't remember DD #1 being this flaky. Her pedi said it's very normal and to just let it run it's course. Lotions and oils aren't going to help much, but they can be applied.
As for the smell behind the ears, this might be very dumb, but could it be milk? I don't know if you are BF'ing or formula feeding, but just like when milk runs down to their neck, it can run behind their ears depending on how they are positioned during feedings.
If it's not milk, I would just wait until Monday to talk to the pedi; it's probably nothing that needs instant attention over the weekend, but if it's that concerning, I'm sure the on-call nurse can assist.
