EBF moms - What pacifier do you use?

My daughter doesn't seem to be a fan of the paci so far.  She'll suck on it once in awhile, but usually gets super mad if I offer it to her.  I know I'll have the hard task of weaning her from the paci eventually, but I'd like for her to have a way to self-soothe.  I've tried two differents kinds of pacifiers so far.  One she has no interest in whatsoever, and the other (Nuk) she will suck on occasionally.

  • We don't use one!  Fingers are good for self soothing... you always have them with you.

  • When DD was a newborn we literally had two of every pacifier on the market... At first she would take the Gumdrop pacifier the hospital offered her, then nothing.  Finally, she took the tiny MAM pacifiers.  Unfortunately, she's still using one to soothe herself to sleep at night then she spits it out, she'll be 4 in April.  Embarrassed  This time I have about one of each pacifier on hand to see which DD2 will prefer.

I know every kid is different, but my niece, age 7, just recently had to have an infection treated in her thumb at the hospital, because she still sucks on it.

I would so much rather have to break a binki habit than a finger habit any day.

J took the gumdrop brand for the first 3-4 months, and is now a mam child.  C is refusing everything except my breast lately.  But, with some help, she takes the newborn mam ones.

  • We use the mam.  We tried about 5 different kinds all without luck...he then took to sucking his thumb, which I was fine with.  After starting daycare he decided he would take a paci since he didn't have his human paci (me) with him all the time.

  • He liked the MAM  but it made his latch really painful (don't know why). I used the soothie and he didn't like it as much but his latch really improved.

This! We gave her the paci from birth. There have been studies recently about them an SIDS. For me- I didnt want to have to fight the finger habit. My cousin was 9 and still sucking her thumb. I can take a paci away.... I cant take her fingers away.
