I'm pretty sure we found someone. It's not going to be cheap so I'm going to have to figure that out. We are supposed to meet with her next week and firm up the details. I really hate all of this and wish the school would just do the right thing for the sake of my daughter without being forced in to it.
Thanks for thinking of us....can I page you and ask for contact info the the prospective advocate doesn't work out?
I'm really sorry y'all are dealing with this. I have some knowledge of the sp ed system but not a ton since all of my work has been in ECI or private practice. I do know enough to know that this is NOT right and they way they're treating y'all is appalling.
Definitely page me if it doesn't work out and I'll pass along her info. I really hope this makes a big difference for your family, especially since it's so costly! It upsets me for you and for families who don't know how to advocate or absolutely can't afford to get outside help. This just isn't right.
The advocate I talked to agrees with you. She mentioned an attorney will likely need to get involved because it is crossing the line in to personal injury. That is not what we want at all. I hope it doesn't take that turn. We just want her to be safe. And yeah, the cost suuuuuuuuucks. With DS's vax injury costing well over $100k we cannot afford this but really, what choice do we have. Thankfully she said we can set up a payment plan for her services, I'm so thankful for that!
Thanks again and I'll let you know if it works out with the advocate.
I also have a rec for a professional advocate. Actually, it's a law firm that has advocates and specializes in special education. Obviously, I dealt with them from the other side of the issue.
What this school is doing is 100% illegal. I'm not generally a fan of getting an advocate involved, but I have never once known a school not to follow through with an IEP or 504. Let me know if this advocate doesn't work out and I'll send you the info.
