I have STTN envy....I hear and read about so many people who have 2 month olds or younger who STTN or at least a huge portion of it. We have a couple of good nights here and there like 2 nights ago he did a 5 hour stretch and then 3.5 hours..so I cant complain on nights like that...but last night he slept 2.5 hours for his first stretch, then 3, then up every hour. ugh. I know every baby is different, but tell me I'm not alone??? I go back to work in exactly one month, I am going to need this to get better.. LOL. Am I unrealistic to think a 2 month old should be getting close to STTN?

Re: When is this kid going to STTN!?!?
Caroline didn't STTN regularly until 10.5 months. I'm not holding out and hope for Parker to do it any faster than she did...
Sorry!!
I think a 2 month old STTN is more of an exception than the rule. My DD didn't STTN until she was 4 months old and even then, it wasn't every night. I read or heard someplace that the magic number is really "12 pounds" (or something like that). Once the baby hits that weight, they can actually go through the night without a feeding.
I remember being exactly where you are now and talking to the pedi in tears saying,"When can I let her CIO? I HAVE to get some sleep! I have to go back to work in a month and I can't function like this!! :::sobbing::::" She told me to not even think about CIO until at least 4 months old and to not worry because soon enough, DD will be sleeping in longer stretches. And then 1 week before I had to return to work, DD started sleeping in longer stretches! :-)
hang in there!!!
Every kid certainly is different. Henry was up every two hours or more until he was about four months old...but he was a huge baby and just needed to eat a lot. Eleanor has gotten up only once a night to eat since the day she was born. However, both of them started TRULY sleeping through the night between 9 and 10 months...by that I mean I put them down at 7pm and didn't hear from them until between 6 and 7am.
I think at two months you just have to go with the flow. As long as he's eating and going back down to sleep I think you can assume he's just hungry!
After two losses, third time was a charm.

my LO didn't STTN until 8 months (and after that, it was pretty short nights). until 6 months he was often up during the night for many hours--so i definitely would not expect a 2 month old to STTN any time soon.
hope your baby starts sleeping more sooner rather than later--i know it is so exhausting!

DS is 9.5 mos and still not STTN.....
I think two things:
1. It's probably really rare for a 2mo old to STTN
2. I will bet that those that do STTN at 2 mos may not keep it up forever... I heard a lot about the "4 mo wakeful" it didn't hit for us b/c DS never STTN prior, but many folks who said their LOs did STTN prior were right w/me when the "4mo wakeful" hit.
Sleep deprivation is so hard! Hope your LO is better at STTN than mine!
I don't think you're unrealistic for wanting him to sleep through the night but it's unrealistic to think a two month old will consistently sleep through the night. I was very, very lucky in that my daughter started sttn right around two and a half months but both my sons didn't sttn until a little after four months.
It will happen, just try and be patient and sleep when you can.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

at 2 months, we were also up 2-3X per night. Didn't sleep through the night until 5 or so and we had some regression at 6 months.
Hang in there. I remember that it got a lot better at 3 months - I think thats when we went to only one time per night.
Jacob started consistently STTN around 4 months - and by STTN, I mean the WHOLE NIGHT. Not 6 hours. By 3 months he was giving us long stretches and only waking once a night.
Since 4-5 months, he has STTN every night unless he was sick or teething. And that only happens every once in a while.
Good sleepers do exist. You just have to be patient!

Ditto...13 months here for Elizabeth (except for a great stretch from 4-6 months). Probably not the norm, but STTN at 2 months doesn't seem like the norm to me either!
This is so true! Max was a great sleeper until 4 mos hit and then he was up all the time. Now a month later he is still waking up 2 times a night whereas at 2-3 mos he was only getting up 1 time or maybe none at all. I agree with everyone else that all babies are different. Also every time I think I have Max's sleeping figured out he changes it up. We'll go from sleeping 12 hr stretch, to sleeping 4 hr stretches, to 6 hr stretches and so on and so forth. He tends to do one thing for a while and then you think ok I've got this figured out and then bam he changes it all up again.
Hang in there, your LO will get better at sleeping as he gets older.
