Can thrush cause diminished supply?

We're struggling with supply troubles at the moment. I'm trying to pinpoint the start of this and it seems to go back to when DD developed thrush. We caught it early but she was on the antibiotic for 3 weeks and on antifungal for the past week now.

Could she have started nursing less at the onset? I was able to pump a 5oz bottle last month and now struggle to get 3-4oz pumped.

  • 3-4 oz is a great pumping output - and it's pretty normal to vary an ounce or two during pumping sessions. Do you EP? Why do you say you're struggling with supply? How do you know she's not getting enough?

  • I don't EP, but I've been pumping at least once a day for the past week to increase supply and supplement. DD is losing weight and pedi is concerned. Long story short: I know she's not getting enough.

I'm just trying to pinpoint when it started. I'm wondering if the thrush led to the drop in supply. That also happens to be when the # of diapers dropped too. When she started getting fussy when nursing and afterwards and started sleep less. All things I blamed on thrush, gas or reflux, but wondering now if it was the start of supply trouble.
