Breastfeeding

Poop Question

My DD is 12 weeks old and EBF. Lately, every time she poops I have to change her outfit because the poop comes out the top of her diaper in the back and I change her immediately. It seems extremely watery, but always has been. The color is bright yellow/orange and seedy. It's not the diapers because we've tried different sizes and brands. My question is, is it normal for poop to be watery at this age? When should it begin to thicken up? TIA!

Re: Poop Question

  • FTM, so I could be completely wrong on this one, but I thought their poop is always watery while EBF (or FF) - it's not until you introduce solid foods that their poop starts getting solid.  (is that right?)

  • My lo is 6 months old and still has liquid stools. Try to fold the back top of the diaper down to catch it. Breast feeding will do that. It should firm up when solids are started.

If you are concerned it is diarrhea, ask the pedi as she may have food allergies to what you are eating, etc.  Sounds like BF poop to me though.

    Good luck!
