How old was your LO when you switched from feeding on the breast to exclusively pumping? I orginally wanted to feed for 6 weeks and then switch to EP but now I am thinking about maybe switching sooner... What worked for you?
I started EP after a week and a half...I was pumping to supplement anyway due to his weight loss, and he was just having trouble latching, and I had so much pain. We're doing well with it so far.
1 week old. She was not latching well once we got home from the hospital. Feedings were taking forever because of this- I had to pump after attempting to get her on the breast and she would only eat for like 6 minutes per side. I was still engorged, and then I would feed her the pumped milk because she was still showing hunger signs. She is 5 months old and we are still going strong. EP works for us, its a huge commitment in the beginning, but now I pump 4-5 times/day and my schedule does not revolve around pumping like it used to. I can easily see myself going to about 10 months of pumping (I only say this because DH and I are going on an anniversary trip to Mexico in June and I want to be weaned by that time).
Why would you want to EP if breast feeding is going well?? I have pumped since the get go. My LO never learned how to latch despite weekly visits with a lacation consult until 12 weeks old.
EP is sooo much more work. Bottles and pump parts to clean, always on a schedule of when you have to pump, clogged ducts (no pump can drain a breast like a baby can).
I wish my LO would have breastfed. It would have made my life a whole lot eaiser.
With that being said. If you plan to EP, I would look into renting a hospital grade pump. It made a huge difference and I had a really good pump (medela freestyle). I am currently renting a medela symphony and it does an amazing job. I plan to continue pumping just past the first year.

Good luck with what ever route you choose.
