NIP question - hiding your tummy

I've never been ashamed/scared to NIP.  Sometimes it's easier to go in a car or a fitting room if DD is SUPER fussy or overstimulated so I can calm her, but most of the time I'll just pop her on where ever we happen to be.  From the beginning I've always used a cover, but it's starting to become more of a PITA so I've been NIP a lot without one or maybe I'll drape a thin A&A blanket.

My question is, is there a trick to NIP without a cover and not blinding everyone with my belly flab?  If someone sees a little boob while I'm getting her latched - eh, no biggie.  For some reason I just cannot get over people seeing this pale gelatinous mass known as my stomach.

If I know I'll probably have to NIP, I'll wear a nursing tank underneath my shirt so there is still a layer when I lift up my shirt, or I'll wear my full panel maternity pants so that will hide the blub.  I don't need maternity pants anymore size wise, but it's so much easier to wear them because I'm SO self conscious of my belly.  I know they sell those undercover momma tanks and things like it, but is there anything I can do with my regular clothes?

Re: NIP question - hiding your tummy

  • Wear a nursing tank under your shirt.  Pull tank down, pull shirt up.  Viola.  Once baby is latched on (if they stay on) no one can see a thing.

  • I wear a normal tank top that has elastic shoulder straps and/or neckline under all my shirts. Then I pull up the top shirt or sweater, unhook the nursing bra, and pull down the bra and tank at once.

  • My wardrobe has gotten more inclusive of low-necked shirts that I can just pull down instead of up. Strangely, I think I'm more covered and subtle doing that than I am when I pull the shirt up, even with a tank under.

I do this. I don't like nursing tanks, I don't feel like I get enough support. Or if I have my boppy (at home or at a relative's house or something) then than hides my belly.

  • I have just always worn nursing tanks or put a blanket over my belly before pulling my shirt up.

you could expose from the top down instead of the bottom up...with a v-neck or something. Or maybe use a belly band if you have one of those from the early days of your pregnancy.

This I usually wear a cami that can be pulled down.

  • I bought their shirts... So far, I like them a lot!  I hate my stomach and I don't feel naked when I'm nursing and wearing them.

  • I always wear the jersey stretch tanks under my shirts.  I got them from Old Navy.  I can pull it down from the top so my tummy is covered and my regular shirt covers the top of my boob.  I'm way too busty to just wear a nursing tank and I found this to work well.  The tanks go back to their original shape pretty well.

  • I like the tank ideas, and I do that sometimes, but sometimes I don't wear one, or it doesn't "go" with my outfits. I've seen a few women wrap an A&A blanket around their exposed stomachs under the baby, kind of like where the boppy would be if you were at home. I tried this and it works well! You can cover up flab (I hate that too!) and it adds a little extra support under LO.

  • I usually wear a cardigan and I just pull that over to cover.  Or I might have DD's little blanket that I can use.

  • I went w/ the nursing tank layering method for a while, occasionally I would use the belly band to cover my belly, but I liked the nursing tanks better- but if you have some bella bands laying around, give that a try.

In the summer I wore a lot of halter style tops/dresses. Also tops that are deep v, work too, or wrap or faux wrap. There is a Patagonia sundress that is great and Target had a dress 2 summers ago that was awesome for nursing as well.

I bought a few Expressiva nursing tops off of zulily once upon a time and they had 2 layers in the front w/ strategic slits/holes, etc.

  • If you have any shirts that button down, try those.

I begged my parents for a couple nursing shirts for my birthday and they got me several from Motherhood Maternity.  I live in them.  I love my nursing shirts and I'm so happy to have them.  I like the ones with the stretchy necks that just pull down, that way everything below stays covered.  If you got a few extra bucks, they are totally worth it.

I have one like this from motherhood, and it does okay in a pinch, but the neck is a little big so it can slip to show my bra, or when i bend over it shows everything.

I have been wearing yoga pants with the fold down waist and then I flip it up when I nurse. I live in yoga pants and I SAH so I don't have to wear anything nicer for errands, etc.

  • I have some nursing tank tops that are elastic top that you just pull down. They're from Motherhood Maternity. I pair those with a nursing bra and it works for me. I also like how it's versatile since the weather here isn't consistent. On cold days I'll wear a cardigan or zip up hoodie over top and on warm days it will be just the tank top.
