Breastfeeding

Oh crap!! Left BM on counter for 45 min-1 hr...is it wasted?

I put it back in the fridge when I realized it, but it had been sitting out for a little less than an hour.  Is it safe to give to LO later today after its been refrigerated again?  I just pumped it last night....I thought the rule I heard from the LC was the "Rule of 5s", meaning 5 hours on the counter, 5 days in the fridge and 5 weeks in the freezer, and she said that was being conservative..

  • No, he didnt drink any of it. I took it out to use some on the awful cradle cap/baby dandruff that he has, seeing as it seems like breastmilk is the answer to alot of skin problems, at least on this board, LOL!

  • Should be fine.  You can also smell it--it smells bad if it's not good, just like cow's milk would.

  • I would just smell it. If it was fine, I would serve it.
