Breastfeeding

Any advice on how to convince my baby to not be a "snacker"?

It's killing me...she'll nurse one side, and either fall asleep or start playing with my nipple.  Then, 20-30 minutes later, she's screaming for food as if I hadn't fed her in a week!  And it's not a growth spurt...she's been doing this since day 1.  It's getting really hard to deal, having a 3 year old as well.  I bounce from one kid to the other for hours at a time, I'm not even able to eat or pee!

Any advice on how to encourage her to eat her fill instead of snacking?

  • I used to do a diaper change btwn sides to wake her up.
  • Have you tried offering before she cries? Have you tried wearing her? Maybe she just needs to be near you rather than actually nursing. You could also try breast compressions so that she can get more milk before falling asleep or you can wake her with a diaper change. It is a pretty normal newborn thing. Feedings space out after a few months. You just kinda have to get through it and keep nursing to keep your supply up!
