Clogged duct?

Anyone know any sure fire ways to get a duct unclogged? I took a hot shower and massaged the breast, and now I'm laying in bed with a heating pad on it. I'm going to try and get DD to nurse off it when she wakes up, but she didn't want any part of it earlier. Also, my whole breast hurts, but I definitely feel a lump in there, I'm assuming it's a clogged duct, as flow on that side has been slow as well. Any suggestions welcome!

  • Massage the breast and keep nursing or try pumping since only a small amount may come out, which may frustrate LO.  Also ibuprofen can help.  Moist heat is best too if you can put a damp towel between your breast and the heating pad.

  • Lecithin! It's unbelievable. I used it when I had clogs that wouldn't quit at around 7 months and now I take one every day and I've never had another clogged duct.

  • If it got real bad I would go in a hot shower and massage (& massage & massage) it hurt like heck, but if you watch your nipple sometimes you can see a milk white spot in it, if you can get that piece out (kind of like popping a pimple, gross reference, I know) then its like instant relief and the milk will just flow out.
