Georgia Babies

All I want for Christmas...

is a healthy house!  One of us has been sick since September.  It's a vicious cycle.  Everyone starts to act healthy, I trash the toothbrushes and sanitize the toys, and then bam... here comes something new.  This bug that Gavin has now is driving me insane.  Only symptoms are fever (but only after 5 pm- WTH?!!) and tummy pain.  This has been going on since Monday night so he hasn't been to daycare all week.  My sick leave is taking an enormous hit!  We've gone to CHOA and to our pedi.  2 negative strep tests and a CBC (b/c these symptoms were eerily familiar to my dad's onset of leukemia) and still all we know is "its viral."  Don't get me wrong, it was a huge sigh of relief to rule out the leukemia... but now I just need him to get better.  He doesn't do well with being cooped up for this long!  I've stopped giving motrin in the hopes that the nighttime fever will burn it off.  His fever isn't that high anyway now- 99-100.  We were all supposed to go to WI to see DH's grandma today but instead DH just left alone and Sophie and I will fly up w/ his parents tomorrow.  Gavin will have to stay w/ my mom b/c I just can't risk this getting worse while we are up there.  I know this is tiny in the great scheme of things but if you guys could just spare some T&P for my little guy (and me!) I would really appreciate it.  I'm so tired and stressed that I can't think straight :-(

Re: All I want for Christmas...

  • Stacie, I know this is going to sound weird, but have you ever aired out your house.  Connor's first year sounded just as you decribed.  From October till March, someone was always sick, getting over something, or about to get sick.  We just rotated the illness, viruses, etc.  Then one day my MIL told me I needed to start airing out my house because we all were still breathing and recycling the same sick air.  Once I started doing this I really saw a big difference.  Now I always air my house out even in the winter, I will crack a window when we go out for a few hours.  The weather has been nice these last few days, so I just open all the windows especially in areas where we are in most (living room, bedrooms, bathroom).

  • Ds was sick a lot last year because it was his first year in daycare. Since that time he's built some immunity, but all of us have started taking probiotics, vitamin D and Cod Liver Oil (like fish oil but more potent) and I think those supplements have dramatically cut down on the amount of sickness we've had and the duration when we have been sick. I also use a netipot daily and use saline nose drops on ds in the morning, as soon as we come home from school and at night before bed.

Hope you guys have a good trip and that everyone feels better soon!

I do this too. I'm pretty sure it's an old wives tale, but I do it anyway because it makes me feel better. Although, studies do show about increased sickness after air travel because of recirculating the air on the plane.

This is too funny... I just had my brother install a screen door on my back porch specifically so I could get some fresh air circulating. Maybe I will make more of a concentrated effort to do leave it open as well as changing our filters -and see if it helps.

  • I understand completely! Every.single.day since the first week of Oct, we've had someone sick here - flu, pneumonia, sore throats, mystery viruses. Is Gavin drinking enough fluids. Since his temp is slightly elevated, maybe it's due to slight dehydration combined with end of the day normal rise in temp? I hope he feels better soon!
