Skin rash on the face

Parker has developed a skin rash that started as a small circle and has spread on his cheeks now. It looks like it has a scab or a clear cover kind of but it doesn't come off when you scratch it. I've put aquafor on his cheeks and chin to try to moisterize his cheeks. The only thing I can think that might have caused it is possibly yogurt we gave him. He hasn't had anything else besides his typical formula and yogurt. Should I call the pedi?

Re: Skin rash on the face

  • Gavin is very prone to this and it has been known to last for months.  His is usually a sign of impending illness but I really think its also allergy related- just not sure what kind of allergy.  I have shown it to our pedis (multiple ones in the practice on different occasions) and they all brush it off and just tell me to keep him extra moisturized.  Gee thanks.  Our usual treatment is original Eucerin Cream- the kind in the tub.  But this last round didn't respond to that.  I finally got it cleared up by using a layer of Cortisone covered with a layer of Neosporin.  I had to be really consistent in applying it multiple times a day and even after I thought it was gone, if I eased up it would come back.  So we still do Cortaid + Neosporin at bedtime even though its clear now.

  • Thanks, Stacie. I'm thinking that's all our pedi is going to do too. He also got a really bad diaper rash at the same time which is definitely related since he never gets diaper rash. I just wish I knew what to do to help him. I'll try the eucerin cream instead of aquafor and see if that helps.

  • Bryce does this too. If aquaphora isn't working our pedi told me to use a little bit of cortisone cream at night before bed. It usually clears it up.

  • just be careful of using cortisone on the face - my little guy had a patch of excema on his face and i used it just like i would on any patches on his body. it got worse and we went to the pedi and she said use on the face can sometimes make excema worse (which is tied to food allergies). she gave us a prescription and it helped a lot.

  • I'm sure this isn't it- but have you elminated ringworm as a possibility?  The circle description made me ask.  Easily treated, but just a thought.
