June 2012 Moms

I beat myself up too much

So, I had a great day yesterday with everything at the doctor, but now that's been overshadowed by my final grades. Technically, they aren't due until Monday, but all of my professors are pretty quick about getting these up (that's the nice thing about being in grad school... short waits for grades!).

Anyway, being in grad school means you're not really supposed to make less than a B in a class, but I sure did this semester. I made a C+ in Public Policy Analysis (a class that was way unfamiliar to me!) and now, I'm freaking out that I'm going to get kicked out of grad school, even though my GPA is way higher than the requirement of 3.0. The professor knew that I had no background in the subject and I think a C is a little harsh. Oh well. Not looking for a hand out; I should have tried harder I guess.

Alright, vent over. I just needed to get that out since the DH isn't really wanting to hear any of it since he said he's having a bad day at work, but that's his own fault for deciding to sleep in and forget his work cell phone at home, which I've been dealing with all day.

  • I don't know about your school, but at mine, a 95 is an A.  It's so hard to keep that up.  This was my worst semester ever (not grades, but school stress), but I chalked it up to pregnancy.  Make sure they won't kick you out, but other than that, breathe.  It's over! (for now)

  • Yeah, this has been my worst semester since my first semester in my undergrad and mine was stress, too! I chalked mine up to the pregnancy, too, and I honestly don't think I'll get kicked out. Our grad school policy (if I read it correctly) is that you maintain a 3.0 every semester and an overall 3.0. Even with the C, I still got a 3.25 this semester and I still have a 3.615 cumulative.

  • Sounds like you will be fine to me!  That's why the GPA requirement isn't 4.0, because you can't be perfect in every class.  It sounds like you've been doing a great job so far to have such a high cumulative, so just take break this holiday season, and make a promise to yourself to not let it happen again.

  • I think the title of your post is right. It's only one grade.. and like you said, you had no experience in the area. Just remember, you can do better in the future. Don't let this drag you down. Be happy it's behind you & focus on the present & future!!
