MSPI and low weight gain

So we just found out DS has fallen from 20th percentile at 2 months to 7th percentile at 4 months. At 2 months, he was diagnosed with mspi due to green stool with traces of blood. That was when I started my no dairy no soy diet. The dr said he wasn't concerned but since we would be there for more shots at 5 months to go ahead and get a weight check. I'm just wondering if his small size could be due to either the mspi itself or my very restricted diet. Anyone else have a baby with low weight gain and mspi? If so please share your experience!

Re: MSPI and low weight gain

  • my LO was 35% at birth and by 4 months old he was 1%. he only gained 4 oz or less per week. diagnosed at 4 weeks old with MSPI due to mucousy bloody stools. we were doing pretty good from around 6 weeks old to just shy of 4 months and then he started getting really irritable/fussy/wouldn't sleep and the mucous was back. I knew my diet was fine! turns out I had a severely low milk supply. when we found out he had only gained 5 oz in 3 weeks. he was only getting about an oz per 45 min BFing session. I worked closely with an LC but we never could get my milk to increase. I gave up at 5.5 months and LO is now on alimentum only. I have no idea if his MSPI and my restricted diet had anything to do with my milk drop or his poor weight gain or what. I question the whole thing all the time. since being on alimentum he has risen to 68%. what is really odd is all along he has had green poop, when I was still eating dairy, when I wasn't and even when he was on just alimentum and even still now. back when I was still BFing the GI doc said the green poop was probably from something in my milk, but now that I don't BF anyway and its still green they say its normal. its all so confusing!!! I know this probably didn't answer your questions! sorry!!!!!! good luck!!!!!!!!!
