What kind of shampoo, soap and lotion do you use on your LO? If it was different, what did you use when they were a baby?
I got a nice set of the J&J baby stuff (shampoo, lotion, diaper rash cream, etc.) but since it recently came out that they weren't necessarily safe, I don't know if I should exchange it for natural stuff or just keep it and use it. I'm thinking return it because if I was buying it I don't think I'd buy these things. I don't know if I'm being paranoid, though.
WWYD- keep and use it or exchange it for something else? (What?)
Re: Non-Clicky Poll: Baby Shampoo/ Soaps
I'd exchange. We use Cetaphil (not exactly natural but very mild) everywhere on Sparky, including his hair. I've tried Burts Bees and Aveeno and both make his skin very dry. I haven't tried anything else because I hate the idea of buying a whole bottle and then not liking it.
I do want to try the California Baby unscented stuff at some point. All the rest of the natural cleansers I've thought about are so heavily fragranced that I can't stand them. We are a fragrance free household for the most part, also because of skin sensitivity.
I would never use J&J on my kids. It just has nasty stuff. It's not being paranoid at all. I like to use this website to compare products even for myself. Now, I'm not saying I use 100% organic stuff on my own hair and body but I also have a much different body surface to mass ratio

We have used all kinds of different stuff - I'll have too go see what we have now!Grandma El's was by far the most gentle esp when Emily was tiny but it doesn't have the power to remove real toddler grime
I refer to the Skin Deep database that Taytee posted before every personal care product purchase, it's great.
I definitely wouldn't use J&J or Aveeno, they're both owned by the same company now. Burt's Bees is owned by Clorox so I avoid them as well.
Right now we use Yes to Baby Carrots foaming shampoo/body wash and Nature's Baby Organics conditioner/leave-in. For lotion I like unscented California Baby lotion or a mix of jojoba and sweet almond oils right after a bath. The oils work awesome (I use the same mix myself) but they leave a semi-slippery toddler and sometimes I don't want to deal with that!
I'd probably exchange it.
I like to use Burt's Bees or Aveeno. (Aveeno isn't all natural but it works really well on tangles.)
I'll add that I've rarely needed to use lotion on either of my kids. They've both gotten a "bath" every night since about 6 weeks as part of our nightime routine. We only really soap them up every other night and even then it's not from like head to toe. The skin has enough natural oils to keep itself healthy, as long as you're not stripping theshit out of it with Sodium Laural Sulfate and all the other crap. I think many babies are bathed too often and too frequently with bubble bath, then soaped up, dried off in towels ladden in liquid fabric softener - well yeah, of course then their skin is going to appear dry and irritated and then moms feel the need to grease them up with something that makes them smell like a "baby" - enter "baby lotion". I'm not judging. I just think most people don't really think about the vicious cycle they're creating. And not just with their babies! With their own bathing routines too
When Emily's eczema was bad (before removing dairy from her diet), we used lotion on her chest to reduce the dryness to decrease her itching.
In other words, some but not all kids have dry skin. Do not make a habit of putting things on your baby unless you determine they need it. Do you know how many parents I've seen at work that put diaper cream on their baby at EVERY diaper change? Or baby powder still? uhg....
Ditto checking EWG and not using JJ.
Ditto!!!'
We used California Baby for a long time and loved it. We now use something cheaper that I get from Natural Grocers but I can't remember the name. DH likes it so much he uses it on his hair!
We use California Baby bubble bath, as well as the body wash/shampoo. When their skin is super dry (mostly in the winter--Griffin has a little eczema and his cheeks get dry and cracked), we use Cetaphil.
