Filing fo Custody/When does he get served?

I am so scared to file for custody because I am scared about what he will do when he gets those papers.

After you file, do you know exactly when he will be served - or at least have an idea?

When you go for temporary custody is it before or after he gets served?

What happens in the meantime while you are waiting for a hearing? Who gets LO?

I'm so confused.

    Now this is what happens here in MN. Not sure how it happens where you live.

    When they serve you with the paperwork, they serve him within a day or two (that's what it was when we did CS) - but you'll know if he was served because you'll be getting a phone call from him flipping off the wall. 

    Were you married at all? Normally if you were not married you retain custody until the temp order is issued.

    No. Never married.

    I'm in Georgia! Ex filed for visitation and I got served with papers about a month later. Once I got served with his "request" my lawyer had 30 days to respond. We took the first available mediation date and proceeded from there. The 1st mediation date was about 30 days from then too. 

    We sat down at mediation and came up with a visitation plan and we came up with a back support amount he owes me. It went into effect immediately. We go back in March for a final order if we want. I recommend doing a temporary order first because it gives you time to figure out what works, what doesn't, and any changes you want to make for the final.  

    Since you weren't married you should be able to keep DS in your custody. If you have any questions let me know. What county are you in?

    OMG thats crazy!  I live in Acworth and work in Kennesaw. I have never been to that park but I just googled it and its only about 25 minutes away. We could totally meet up some time!  Have you even been to Swift Cantrell? Or is that too far for you?
