My LO is 5 weeks and seems to be eating less frequently than before. I felt like all I was doing was nursing prior and now if it has been a couple of hours and he normally would be hungry, he doesn't want to eat. He is going more like 3-4 hours during the day.
Then about 7p.m he gets fussy and will cry/scream until about 9. He then will briefly fall asleep, then wake up and eat like a champ (both sides etc). He will go to bed about 10:30, sleep about 4 hours. Then eat and be down for 3 hours.
I have a good supply, so I am not worried about him getting enough. I also pump to get a stash for going back to work.
Re: nursing less often?
My DD never stretched out her daytime feedings much past 3 hours, but she (even at 5 months) cluster feeds most nights. When she was about your LO age she was just like that. She would fuss/cry from 6:00/7:00 - 9:00. My DH and sister would both try to help so I could have a break. Finally, I just stuck her on the boob because I did not know what else to do. It worked! Once I started feeding her during that time she became a much happier baby in the evening. She would usually eat for 20-30 minutes then be better for an hour or so. When she got older I tried to stretch her evening feeds back to 2 or 3 hours, but she got really fussy again so I just decided to keep cluster feeding her. Now she eats at 5:00, 6:30, and 7:30 no matter when she eats during the day. Also, she started sleeping through the night once I started cluster feeding her again.
