Since this is my first time hosting Christmas Eve dinner, I wanted to actually try to decorate the table. Do you decorate your holiday table? If I do, since our table is small, we won't have much room for food. So I am thinking of setting up the food on the buffet. Growing up, my grandma always hosted and had the most beautiful table with room for the full holiday meal. I would like to replicate, but think I may have to go the buffet route
Re: NPR: Holiday table decor?
I have a big table, but I still do a buffet in the kitchen. its just easier with all the kids now anyways since they sit at a separate table than the adults. Plus I like to use the room on the table for decorations.
This year, I have a long galnvanized tray that takes up the length of the table, but not much of the width, which is ideal. I put 7 or 8 old mason jars of different sizes that I've aquired throughout the years from antique stores. I filled the bottom of each with a little bit of fake snow that I found at Target, and then put a dark green (xmas tree scent) candle in each. Then, I filled the rest of the tray around the jars with fresh cranberries. It looks very pretty, especially when lit! The fake snow sparlkes.
I also think the tall cylinder vases with candles and a filler (floating candles with cranberries and water, fake snow, etc.) would be pretty and not take up a lot of space. I always have to have candles on my Christmas table!
