Well, it's like a thick blob of snot. I don't recall losing mine with my first, but many women do lose theirs. It can grow back and does not always mean that labor is near.
I did not just know. I had been having contractions all weekend and when I went in for my induction I was 3cm dilated. As a FTM, I really didn't know what to expect. I kept thinking that my contractions were going to be God awful as soon as they started, so I was surprised that I checked in at 3 cm. They gradually increased in intensity.
I lost my MP on a Monday and the baby was born on Sunday (so 6 days later). It was gross and looked like a giant bloody booger. And it kept coming out for a few hours. So mucusy-bloody and gross.
oh and about "just knowing". Sort of. I woke up Saturday morning and felt weird. Not in pain, just very uncomfortable and with an overall tight feeling in my belly. I got ready for work and by the time I was leaving the house at 8:00 a.m. that morning I felt a cramp here and there. Nothing nuts. The "cramps" just kept getting worse pretty much until I realized they were contractions.
Came home from work at 1:30 p.m. and I was totally in labor. continued in labor until 4:30 a.m. when DD was born. I had a very normal labor and progressed very well on my own though. There was absolutely no mistaking I was in labor because my contractions were like exactly every few minutes. And did I mention painful? Shoot I have to do this again really soon. omg.
Re: The show/mucus plug? explain if u may :-)
