Migraine sufferers..

I have been dealing with this migraine on and off since Sunday night. It's not the worst migraine I have had, but it is a nagging, gnawing pain on the side of my head and I can't function at 100%. Normally I am a runner, but have had to skip my runs because of this. I usually can take 2 Excedrin Migraine and that will knock it out. It's not working this time. Neither is 800mg of Advil. I went into Urgent Care since we had to take DD1 for a sprained ankle anyways and they prescribed me Vicodin-which really hasn't done anything for it other than make me drowsy and nauseated. There has to be SOMETHING that will get rid of this. Any advice? The doctor said it was too late for Immitrex to be effective.

  • I'm not much help with suggesting an rx, because I'm allergic to Imitrex and several other meds.  Would a massage help?  Sometimes when I have a less severe migraine that lingers like that, getting a massage at least reduces the pain to a level where I'm able to function normally.  I would look for a therapist that specializes in cranio-sacral therapy or migraine treatment.  Hope you feel better soon-migraines are awful!
  • I find it interesting that you doc said it was too late for Imitrex.  I've take Imitrex and various stages of a migraine and it always works for me.  I would ask for Treximet, it's the newer version of Imitrex + naprosyn and it's been found that the combo of the two are more effective on migraine pain.  I've been taking it for over a year and it's been great for me.  Sounds like you just need to knock this thing out!
  • stop the vicodin and advil...both can cause rebound migraines.

I take maxalt and an aleve.  It definately works a LOT better if I get it at the start, but it still helps (and prevents rebounds) if I take it later....

I would talk to your doc and suggest that maybe you are having rebounds and you need something that won't cause the rebounds.....
