we tried banana in the mesh feeder last night and it was gross. it made a big slimy mess everywhere. and dd got really frustrated. is that just the wrong kind of food to put in there?
I love ours, but I haven't put banana in it. Try peaches or kiwi. Both of those are pretty easy to get out. I also put teething biscuits in it for her. I'm still afraid to let her bite pieces of them and she loves them in the mesh feeder.
I've been thinking about buying one, but I go back and forth. Especially after reading about them on here - I didn't realize how messy they'd be. I do remember someone mentioning the other day that banana is one of the worst, mess wise. I've heard pears are great in them, and frozen fruits.
I'm thinking of getting one, but wouldn't put something that mushy in it. I was thinking more along the lines of frozen fruit for teething or fresh apple slices.
they're messy! if we get one we would probably only put frozen fruit in it as a means of soothing sore gums. otherwise i'd rather he just learn to eat food the old fashioned way!
I've always been told not to put banana in it because it gets all gross and is harder to clean out, so I just spoon feed banana.
I've given DD frozen breast milk, pears, pumpkin, apple... really anything that freezes well in her age range of foods. It really helps her out with her teething and she's always so proud that she can do it herself!
Later I'll start putting fresh blueberries and grapes and other stuff in it, but for now I just do frozen stuff and she loves it!
DS really likes his mesh feeder. But....I have heard that putting banana in it is a no-no. Big mess and hard to get out. I have put homemade applesauce that I froze in ice cube trays inside the feeder. It's great, just make sure you DC wears a BIB! I have also tried avocado and applesauce cube together, he liked that also!
One of those things I have no intention of getting. I don't see a need for it, and they really do not appeal to me and I don't want DD to use one either.
I did apple slices yesterday and she liked sucking on it and playing with it. Those weren't too messy but she did keep beating herself in the head with it...she had apple hair.
Re: anyone else hate mesh feeders?
ok, good point ladies. i should use it for firm foods.
and another psa about banana: it stains like crazy!

bananas are very hard to get out. You have to work it back and forth in your fingers under running water to get all the tiny bits out.
Frozen mango works beautifully. Peaches aren't too bad, either. Haven't tried much else. Some people love to just put ice in there as a teether.
