Breakfast fail

So I was hanging out with LO this morning while DH took a shower. He had stopped eating his cereal (mixed with prunes - yuck! - I'd ignore it, too). Because I didn't want him to have a breakfast of mostly puffs, and he was looking longingly at DH's oatmeal bowl, I started giving him some of DH's oatmeal. DH always makes it with blueberries and cinnamon and it smells delicious. LO was awestruck and gobbled it down - he ate about 1/3 of DH's serving, which is a huge amount of food for my picky eater.

DH came down into the kitchen and I proudly showed him the bowl, and DH was excited. Then suddenly DH remembered that he had added sugar to his oatmeal this morning! We've been really determined to avoid sweets, but I guess that ship has sailed! No wonder LO loved it.

Then soon after I left, DH texted me - LO said "I love you" back to DH. This is the first time since I went back to work that I feel bad about missing something :-(

Re: Breakfast fail

  • Sweet. Wow! He's already saying "I love you!" That's amazing, no? I'm not really clear on when babies start forming sentences but that's awesome!

  • I'm sure he was only mimicking DH, not actually saying it himself, but I'm sure it was still awesome to hear.

I have been thinking about it and I'm not going to be upset. He still hasn't said dada, even though he says mama and just recently started saying DCP's name (which made her so happy). DH has been a little bummed about that, so he can have this.

Sprout *still* doesn't say mama.  I mean, I'm sure he's capable b/c he can say dada, papa, milk, bike, night-night, box, keys, cheese, stick, shoes, socks, and a host of other words.  But he never says mama.  Also, when he hears the key in the lock, the look of pure joy washing over his face & he starts chanting "dadda pappa dada papa!"  I mean, you would seriously think it's christmas. This is likely because I'm around all the time & there's no real reason to call me anything or get excited if I've been away for a few hours.  But it bums me out so freaking hard sometimes.

This is just to say, even if you are around all the freaking time, it's still not everything you want.

And a little bit of sugar in oatmeal is not going to kill anyone. Unsweetened oatmeal is pretty gross IMO. (Obviously you can sweeten it with fruit, but it's still sugar.)

Awww, hugs to you. I remembered you saying that sprout didn't say mama, and told DH that a week or two ago, and that him saying mama first was probably because I'm home with him less. I don't know if he believed it or not, but I'm pretty sure it's true.

  • If he is usually a picky eater, and he gobbled it up, then it was a breakfast success!

And Y told me about him saying her name, she was beaming!!  So cute!

    thanks.

and, i totally give sprout oatmeal with either banana & cinnamon (tastes like moderately sweet banana bread.  i make it for myself like this) or a dash of maple syrup. Like Wines, unsweetened oatmeal can be gross.

However, I like prunes (or, dried plums as I prefer to call them) so what the hell do I know?!?

  • we add applesauce (unsweetened) to DS' plain-with-flax-seed oatmeal

and "I wuv you" is amazing to hear, you'll hear it often and it'll never get old!
