Need help! Stuffy nose baby

Hi ladies...I need some advice. As of Tuesday DD has a stuffy nose....I have put the baby saline drops and try to suck it out with the bulb but she still sounds stuffy. I also have the humidifier on in her room at night. Is there anything else I can do? She also didn't drink her whole bottle last night either and that concerned me a little. I am a first time mom so I might be a little paranoid. Thank you in advance for your advice!

  • DD is getting a stuffy nose again as well, and the last time I went ahead and ordered the Nosefrida thing.  I have to tell you, it works so much better than the bulb!  Not only does it get more out, it gets it out all at once so you aren't having to keep putting the bulb in their nose only to not get it all out.

We also use the Vicks like pp said.  But everything else you are doing is right.  You can prop the crib mattress up a bit, but in our case DD always ends up moving to where she isn't sleeping where its propped up.

It sucks but you have to kinda just wait it out & keep doing what you are doing.  But I really recommend the Nosefrida- https://www.amazon.com/Nosefrida-The-Snotsucker-Nasal-Aspirator/dp/B00171WXII

  • Oh & also, yesterday at DC she didn't want to drink a bottle because she was stuffed up.  But she ate her solids just find.  I think its harder for them to drink because of the congestion.  Just do what you can to keep it clear.

  • LO had a cold that felt like it lasted a whole month! My advice, get the Frida! it works wonders!

You are already doing what you are supposed to, I just would add some steamy shower time, I would do it first thing in the morning and right before bed. Turn the shower to a steam room and just hang out in there for a few minutes, then add the saline drops, wait a minute then suck it all up with the frida and voil?! gl.

Ditto.  DD was congested last week, I used the Nosefrida and I was absolutely amazed at how much mucus she had in her nose.  I'm talking about using at least 2 kleenexes during the morning session.  There is NO WAY the bulb would have gotten out half as much as the Nosefrida.

At first DD was not having it, she'd squirm and move all over the place, but once she realized that it gave her some relief from the congestion, she sat still for me by mid week.

One of the top baby purchases for me!

  • thank you ladies so much! I have never heard of this nosefrida thing but I will purchase it ASAP! I will also try to steam up the bathroom tonight and hang out with her for a little in there. Thank you again for your advice...I just feel so terrible for her and knowing there is only so much I can do to help her!

Here's a tip that I learned from a nurse friend. She suggested to use the saline and bulb BEFORE a feeding...right before.  And actually saline the nose after you use the bulb one last time.  This loosens it up and allows them to breathe easier when eating.  Silly me had never thought to do it, but it makes sense to me now and it really works.

  • Oh, and OP, the NoseFrida is scary to use at first...but I promise you won't inhale anything. It makes me gag occasionally, but I have a weak stomach :)
