Austin Babies

the latest on Australia (for those who asked for updates)

Sorry if you're tired of this, but I still have not told my family or anything- so this is my outlet.

DH had a long meeting with the VP again today.  He said that they are not sure they want to commit so much money to do the expat for 2 years without knowing if it is going to work. (DH managing that team).  So, the VP proposed sending him for 6 months instead of 2 months for the short term trip.  That is 6 months with ALL OF US!  They would pay housing, per diem, all of it- they just don't want to commit to the whole 2 years yet.

So, it looks like we are all going sometime mid January.  The plan is for us to be there 6 months and then after that we all come home and figure out what to do from there. WooHoo!  I'm still shocked! I can't believe they said they will send all of us!  We don't have anything in writing yet- but we are suppose to find out by Friday.

Now, we have to figure out what to do about animals, and Abby's school.

eta- anyone want to take 2 dogs, 2 snakes and a blue-tongue skink  for 6 months.

  • That is so very cool!!  I agree with Kiara that you need to start a blog telling us all about your time in Australia.  A friend did some volunteer work in Africa and had an amazing blog telling us of her time.  It was an amazing way to see another country.

I am so excited for you!!!

  • That's one of those things you never quite expect to really  happen -- pretty darn cool that it seems it actually might!

I must admit I think it's kinda funny that you were upset about your MIL moving cross country, but you might move cross World!  :)

Probably most annoying with figuring out school is that they're about to be out for 2 weeks here so you'll probably want to talk to them but there will be noone around -- I read a few Australian blogs on the regular and I know their terms are slightly different but I'm sure Abby would fit right in.

Best of luck finding something for the pets.  We have our fill with just our 2 cats.  We know our pet limits.

  • Thanks everyone!  I hope we hear something concrete by Friday, the not knowing for sure is killing me!  So much going through my mind right now if we do go- school, pets, my job, and on and on!  But, it would be such an awesome opportunity it is worth it.

On the blog- I'm HORRIBLE about keeping up a blog, I've tried and failed many times.  I was thinking we could set up a website for Abby though and she could blog. I think that would be really cool and would help her work on her "writing."  Also, she is pretty upset about the thought of leaving her current teacher and classmates. So, hopefully it would be something the teacher would be able to allow the kids to read at school.

On school- we know a lot of people over there now, thankfully.  DH has worked with them for years now, so we will have support on that end.  We talked to one of his friends last night and their kids are out for summer break right now!  They go back in late January.  Yes, getting things done on this end will be interesting since the schools and district office will be closed for 2 weeks.  Hopefully it won't be until mid to late January though and that will give us time.   I know if anything Kinder is not required in Texas so technically we could just pull her out and then I could home school her while there.  Then when we came back she could still start 1st grade with no problems.  We do hope to get her in school there though, I think it would be a great opportunity for her.  DH's work has said they will assist us with getting that taken care of.

Nanann- yep! I wouldn't say I was upset she was moving across country. Just that it did not make sense.  And I envisioned her wanted to stay with us for longer periods of time!  That was the part that "upset" me.  I

The hardest thing is really going to be figuring out the pets. :(

Do you know any single friends (or college students) that can do a 6 month "lease" with you? They can house-sit and pet-sit for you while you are gone. Then everything can be taken care of while you are gone.
