sculpting lower body while pregnant

I really want to maintain and sculpt my lower body (hips, thighs, and butt) during my pregnancy. I am determined to eat right and and be as healthy as possible. I want to do 30-40 minutes of cardio and each day and some resistance band training and possibly some work with very light weights. Thoughts? I have plenty of padding in my rear lol I dont think that I need to gain anymore. I have saddlebags and I know that if I dont watch it they could get really bad when I start to gain more weight. I have always been self conscience about my weight and have worked hard to keep it under control. I watched my sisters only gain about 20 pounds each pregnancy and I guess Im having some anxiety that I will gain much more and not lose it afterwards. anyone else feel this way?

Re: sculpting lower body while pregnant

  • I was really worried with my first, and even more terrified if we decide to have a second (mostly because i've heard its harder after 2 to come back).  I worked out my entire way through pregnancy, and only gained 18lbs total, so it can be done.

Don't get to caught up in the weight gain thing though because your body will do what its going to do to sustain the baby.  If you had absolutely no fat on your body before, you may gain a bit more, but if you were at your bodies "ideal" weight you may not gain much at all, and that's where I fell, I was where my body wanted me to be when I got pregnant, I gained the weight, had the baby, and was back at that weight 12 days after having him and haven't moved since...I work out 5 days a week for over an hour, I do weights, cardio, and I'm training for an intense 2012 race schedule your body will do what it's going to do.

  • My doctor said I am able to continue my routine throughout my pregnancy so I plan to continue to lift weights and do cardio. I am still doing squats, lunges, leg press, and a few others that help with keeping your legs toned. I plan to do cardio 5 days a week as well.

But let me tell you I am a workout queen but just wait m/s can put you on your butt and not want to do anything!

  • So I was a work out queen prior to getting pregnant, with very little body fat. Now...well I have had morning sickness that started around 8wks and is still lasting now into wk 16. The only way I don't get sick is to eat more bread/carbs. So needless to say I haven't been working out at all and have gained about 10lbs. I am trying to work out but usually when I do - and only for about 20-30 min - I usually still end up sick in the evenings. I know I will get back into shape after the baby is born but I would say if your body can handle working out - go for it. I was told to avoid any core exercises and to make you aren't exercising to the point of fatigue. The babies heart rate will be at least twice what yours is. Good luck!
  • I dread working out, but I have been blessed with good genes. I danced throughout college, but anything else, I preferred not to do. My mom looks great at 51 and everyone keeps telling me I will lose the weight quickly. But I am self-conscience of the way I look and we are going to Hawaii 3 months after the baby is born. At the beginning of my pregnancy, I was told I couldn't exercise or anything for the first 14 weeks. Ever since 20 weeks, I started to workout. I walk/jog for about 40-60 minutes a day, 4 to 5 times a week. I try to get in anywhere from 2.5-5 miles. Some weeks are better than others. Also, I started doing the Bar Method again. Not sure if you know what that is, but I have the DVD and just do the legs and arms. That I do about once or twice a week. It really depends on the weather and if I can motivate myself. Also, drinking water is key! I was snacking too much and between 21-25 weeks, I gained 4 to 6 pounds. My doctor told me that was too much and got me going crazy. My little guy probably went through a growth spurt and I needed to gain some because I hadn't gained much at the time. I was completely down about the situation. I went in yesterday, and between 25-29 weeks, I only gained 1 pound. I was so thrilled when I got weighed yesterday. I got pregnant right after a DNC so I started this pregnancy around 124 lbs and I am 5'7". I have now gained about 14-15 lbs. in 29 weeks. I am hoping I do not have too much more to gain. I know it could be at least 10 lbs., but my doctor would like me to stay between 22-25 lbs. Eating healthy and exercising is great for you and the baby as long as you monitor it properly and be smart about it. I am sure you will be fine. Be careful at first not to do too much. Hope you are feeling great!
