Ethan has a slight lazy eye when he looks up and over. I noticed it around 9 months one day when I was standing off to his side and he looked up at me. It corrected itself almost a split second later. For awhile I thought I was almost imaginating it ( I do have a very anxious personality.) I brought it up at Ethan's 12 month appointment. Pedi wasn't sure she saw it but referred us to s pediatric opt. When we saw her, she said it's not uncommon in children and that we would monitor it for a year. She said often times it will get worse by 18 months. 2 year appointment came and I actually thought it was better. Once she held his head straight and had him look all around, it was there. He learned to compensate by turning his head so we never saw it. She dilated his eyes and determined hat he's slightly far sighted as well. She decided glasses were the best option for now. We'll go back every 2 months until he grows out of it..... She thinks sometime between now and age 5.
Our friend's daughter wears glasses for a lazy eye. It has been very obvious since she was about 6 months old and her pedi recommended that they see a specialist. She wears glasses all the hours of the day that she is awake, save for one hour a day. She also has to have the good eye patched several times a day to ensure that her lazy eye is exercising.
My daughter has an eye that crosses in. She also runs into a lot of things like walls. At first we thought she just might be clumsy, but it was related to her sight.
We are having a hard time getting her to wear the glasses though.

At Jace's 2nd birthday exam the doc checked his eyes (shining light in one eye and then the other.) He had an asymmetrical red reflex meaning they didn't look the same.
He recommended a pediatric optho.
The specialist we saw was amazed that our pedi caught it because it was slight.
In retrospect Jace used to do this thing where he would look out of the side of his eyes. Everyone thought it was adorable and it kinda looked like he was flirting. Once he got his glasses that side eye thing stopped so in retrospect we think he was favoring his better eye but at the time we didn't think for one second it was a vision issue.
He's got one eye that's "stronger" than the other (not cross eyed, just better vision) so we patched for a while so the weaker eye would have to work harder to catch up.
It's amazing how much progress you can make if you catch vision issues before the age of 6.
My advice is that it's SO worth it to go ahead and schedule the appointment. If nothing's wrong you get peace of mind but if something IS wrong you may well earn a TON of progress if you catch something early on.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Thanks ladies! Reese has always been a little crosseyed. I thought it would rectify itself as her eyes got stronger, but I'm noticing it a lot lately when she tries to focus on something. I'm going to call the pedi today.
I just wanted to say that I his picture. I have a special fondess for LO's in glasses, they make me go all gooey. He's just adorable.

Re: if your little one wears glasses ...
DS has worn glasses on and off, he has Congenital Infantile Esotropia (crossed eyes), so the crossing is what prompted us to make an appointment.
I would talk to your pedi, which is where we started, she was able to refer us. Hopefully it's nothing!
