Pregnant after a Loss

Question for Late Loss Ladies

I was just wondering how long after your loss you got KU. I am just trying to see what the earliest someone got pregnant after a loss and how you felt. For example: Did any of you ladies get pregnant after the first or second cycle after your loss?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Question for Late Loss Ladies

  • I lost my DS at 24 days old.  He was born full term.  I wasn't ready to try again for a while.  He passed in September and we started trying again the following May.

Really, it's a personal thing.  Some people are ready sooner than others.  I just couldn't get past that part of my grief that soon,

  • My daughter was still born in June and I got pregnant again in November. My OB said to wait 6 months but at my 4 month check up she said that I was physically healed. It is still emotionally very hard but I always wanted my kids super close in age and that is why we decided to try again so soon

edit: at my 4 month check up she said we could start trying again if we were ready. I didn't go against dr orders!

  • I think with a late loss you aren't suppose to try for a certain number for cycles, I believe it is 3 normal cycles. Your uterus is suppose to have the proper lining and that takes time.

On the your questions...We lost Nicholas in April and started in Sept, got pg, chemical pregnancy. In retrospect I was not ready, I grieve the loss of Nicholas all over again. I think it is important to wait whatever time your doctor tell you b/c in those first few months so many emotions hit that you don't think of. In fact it continue for a good year and then some.

We tried again in Feb, got pg and lost our son in May.  After a lot of searching and introspective thinking we decided to give it one last try, despite normal results for everything. We are definitely in a better place this time. Everyone is very different and it isn't a one size fits all answer, my answer may be different if we hadn't continued to experience loss.

  • my DD was stillborn in september.  i got my first PP AF in december and got PG in march, so my 3rd cycle.  we started trying immediately after my 1st AF- OB had recommended 3 months, the perinatologist rec'd 6 months (mostly for "emotional healing"), we went with what the OB said since she'd be following me during the pregnancy.

also, make sure you feel like you are emotionally ready.  being PGAL is definitely not easy.  for us, we knew we wanted to try immediately.  having our rainbow here now has helped a lot.  the loss still hurts, but he definitely brightens our days.

  • Ace was stillborn in July 2010 and doc advised us to wait 2 mos.  We ended up waiting 3 months just to be sure everyone was emotionally ready (especially because we conceived Ace the first time we tried) and from there it took us 6 TTC cycles to conceive.

  • Lost my son at 22 weeks and we were told to wait 3 months to TTC.

We started TTC in April 2011, at the 3 month mark.  We conceived at the end of June 2011.

    DD#1 11/7/04 DS#1 6/24/06 Chemical Pregnancy 6/08 DD#2 1/28/10 after secondary infertility, Clomid, & acupuncture missed m/c 6/2010 at 8 weeks (baby stopped growing @ 5.5) DS born sleeping 1/13/2011 due to cord accident at 22 weeks. DD#3 3/10/2012
  • We conceived almost 4 months to the day after DD was born.  Physically since she was born so early, my drs said it was ok to try after 2 cycles or so.  Emotionally we were ready for our family and knew our grief would last forever.  I will say that being PGAL is so up and down, and I don't think that would be any different if we had waited longer.

  • Alexander was stillborn in mid-June. I got pregnant in September, before his due date and Baby No. 4's due date would have been before his actual birthday too. I felt like crap about it. I felt guilty and wrong. It only lasted a few days.

Then I got pregnant again last month and I feel better about it knowing that the baby is due after Alexander's birthday. I feel better about the pregnancy in general too. I still sometimes feel bad though because I feel like I am replacing him or because I feel like I know this baby wouldn't be here if he wouldn't have died. I'm also scared out of my mind, but trying to not let it control me. I know I can't control it right now, especially since I am so early. All I can do is hope and pray for the best and this time hope this is my take home baby.

  • Our baby was born sleeping in June of this year at 37 weeks. I got my first AF almost exactly 4 weeks later. We were told to wait 3 months to try again if we were emotionally ready. I had my PP appointment at 3 1/2 weeks and was told I had healed very well. We waited 3 months and I ended up getting pregnant in October.

Definitely listen to your doctor and make sure you are emotionally ready. We were on the same page as far as trying again right away. I'm happy we did, but I'm not going to lie, being PGAL is very hard.

  • Almost two years after for a viable pregnancy.  Third post-partum cycle (second trying) for a chemical pregnancy.  Fifth post-partum cycle (fourth trying) for second chemical pregnancy.  Another year for the third chemical pregnancy, and then two or three more cycles for this pregnancy.
