I asked this on another board and got kinda reprimanded for not having my life plan for parenting all figured out yet, so I thought maybe I'd keep it local and get a better response. Does anyone have any recs for books you found helpful along the way? The baby aisle at the bookstore overwhelmed the baheegeez out of me, not afraid to admit.

Re: Newborn care/Parenting book list?
My friends call What to Expect When You Are Expecting, what to worry about when you are expecting! It is a good reference, but don't read it cover to cover! There are several chapters I would suggest skipping altogher, like the ones on birth defects.
I really liked The Happiest Baby on the Block.
Our pedi gave us a book called "Mommy Calls" on our first visit and I've found that really helpful.
Honestly, if I ever have a question I just Google it or lurk the boards. I found lurking on 0-3 months during my third trimester helped weed out my "stupid" questions. I was able to recall common questions and I saw people struggling with nursing and growth spurts so that helped a lot when I was in it.
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
Baby Bargains and Baby 411. Baby bargains isn't so much about care or parenting but was very insightful on what to buy and what not to buy.
Baby 411 is by the same publisher and I'm still referring to it even after reading it from cover to cover before DD was born. Its very helpful in the fact that it tells you if your baby is sick, when to call the Dr. I love this.
I also have the standard WTEWYE and WTETFY.
I liked What to Expect When You're Expecting. I didn't read it cover to cover, but just flipped through it and read the parts relevant to the part of pregnancy I was currently in, plus I read ahead a little.
I also have What to Expect in the First Year. I got in late in my pregnancy and read a little about the postpartum period. Now we just read the "what your baby might be doing this month" section for each month and we use it as a reference book when we have a question.

I know a lot of people don't like WTEWYE, but I actually really liked it. I didn't find it fear mongering at all. I don't really care for WTE - 1st year as much though.
Ditto Snoopy on lurking on the bump. I really learned SO much from here and Babycenter. If you're planning on BFing, I'd also highly recommend kellymom.com as well.
Definitely this one!!

It isn't bad, and I am glad I had it. I definitely used it as a refernce guide. I just don't think it is the kind of thing that you should sit and read cover to cover... which is what I did when I was home on bed rest due to a major bleed. I was already upset, so I think that made me focus more on the negative stuff.
I have:
The Baby Book (Dr. Sears)
The Happiest Baby on the block
The Womanly art of breastfeeding.
So far, these have all been pretty helpful.
Can I add another? What to Expect When You're Expected: A Fetus' Guide to the First 3 Trimesters.
It is a parody of WTEWYE, that was written by one of the writters from the daily show. The medical info in the book is accurate, but it is also hilarious. This is probaby the only book my DH actually read about pregnancy.

I liked Baby 411
There is also an AAP website that is very helpful.
I wasn't super "Attachment Parenting" but I did find alot of helpful information on Dr. Sears website.
