Has anyone given birth at the Birth Center at AMC? I was wondering if someone had an idea regarding their attitude towards natural birth (no epi, moving around during labor, eating and drinking, etc). I have a tour scheduled in Jan so I'll find out for sure then, but I'm very curious now.
TIA for any answers!
Re: Albany Medical Center Question
I had both my kids there. With my first labor, my water broke and we got there about an hour later and I was in so much pain. I had constant contractions and I was barely functioning, I was practically screaming in pain... so although I wanted to explore natural options originally, all I wanted was the epi, and I was at the end of a waiting list - I was fortunate they bumped me way up!
2nd time around I had a scheduled c-section, so that doesn't help you either.
They do have a birthing tub room, and I'm not positive but I think they have birthing balls. Also when I was pushing, they let me try a couple different methods, one of which was pulling on a rope attached to a bar.
I would definitely ask on the tour, they were really helpful.

I ended up with a c-section, and was strongly considering an epidural at some point anyway. But, I did take my prenatal class through them (held at the Medical Arts building in Latham, but I don't think they do that anymore), and most of the sessions were about using natural methods throughout labor, so my guess is that they are open to it. I do remember seeing several birthing balls and was shown the rooms with tubs in them when we visited the Birth Place.
You'll definitely want to ask more specifically about it when you tour. I know one of the things they mentioned was availability of those rooms, so you'll definitely want to check on that.
