    I tore up and down only because the Dr. used the vacuum and I wasn't contracting when he pulled. 

    Sex was uncomfortable for 6 months after giving birth.  The pain felt like when you lose your virginity, a stinging, burning pain...not enjoyable at all.

    I'm hoping I don't need the vacuum again. With my daughter she was wedged in there pretty good and I would have taken an episiotomy if it had been offered, my Dr. simply pulled and I tore.

    Both for me, but sex was fine after the first eight weeks or so.

    I tore and sex was painful for a few months, but after that it's been fine.

    My oldest son was face up and the doc. had to turn him as he was coming out. I had an episiotomy and have no issues from it.

    Since I had a c/s I couldn't choose one of the options you gave, but my OB's practice does not do episiotomies at all, so I would not have gotten one anyway.

    I had a big bad 3rd degree tear and had no problems with sex at all.  Add me to the "It got better" club.  Only the first time pp was there a little discomfort but it wasn't unreasonable.

    I had an episiotomy with my first, and tore with my second and had no problems either time.
