I'm so over the name Aiden anyway, but, I started calling the boy I babysit 'Aids' lol - because i shorten names and didn't realize it. I'd never use it.
I love Eleanor as a full name, and with the nn Nora. But DH says if we had an Eleanor he'd for sure call her Ellie. Ugh. I'm keeping it on our list while I consider whether or not I'd mind DH calling a daughter Ellie while I (and everyone else) called her Nora. I kind of don't mind, because he has special nn's he calls Linus that are his special pet names for him, but I just wouldn't want all other people calling her Ellie also, kwim?
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I really dislike nicknames and will always call my child by their full name. It's one of the reasons I'm leaning away from using Emmeline because I feel like other people will tend to shorten it.

I'm also not a big fan of nicknames. I really liked Kimberly with DD, but I don't like Kim or Kimmy. With DS it was Nicholas. Me and DH both know Nicks that we can't stand. I'm sure there were others that I can't think of right now. With this baby, I really like Alice, but I don't like Ali (or any spelling variation). It's a fine name, but I just think it's overdone. Still debating whether or not to nix Alice for that reason.
I love the name Harrison, but hate the nn Harry. It's still on my list, but the nn thing is one of by biggest reservations about the name.
Also, this isn't a nn thing but more of a teasing thing....I've always loved Rhea for a girl (pronounced RAY-uh), but I'm afraid she'll ineveitably be called dia-Rhea.

Jameson is on our short list for boys but I despise the NN Jamie--so I'm torn. Will people call him Jamie even if we call him James? or just Jameson? I don't know!
Pretty much any name that has a popular shortened version, lol. Im not a big fan of NNs. DH liked Katherine, Elizabeth, and Madeline but I vetoed all 3. Elizabeth is being reserved for the MN since it's a family name, though.

Victoria is a big one for me. I HATE the name Vicky with a passion (I knew someone named that and...ugh.) Ruins a beautiful name for me. I know I could never live with myself if I named my daughter Victoria and people started calling her Vicky or any variation of the nn.
Scarlett is another. Besides the growing popularity of it that turns me off, I hate Scar.

If it helps, I have never heard anyone call my son Jamie.
I'm actually a Katherine Elizabeth. (I've always loved my name) People call me Kate or Katie. My parents were the opposite, they wanted to name me Katie but thought I'd want a more formal name when I got older.
I did not want my family calling my kid by initials. I want him to have his actual name used. Thus we avoided most J middle names. Don't want a CJ, EJ, BJ, MJ or anything else. And I know my mom would've. She wanted DS to be a Jr. so she could call him EJ.
Re: What names are you avoiding because of the potential nn?
I love Alison but hate the NN Ali.
I actually dislike most NNs, personally. Most of the names on our list don't have an obvious or common NN

We had agreed on Harris until I became too afraid of the nn Harry.
Richard will be the mn but will not use as a fn because of the nn(s).
