We were told by our doctor to use 50/50 Vaseline/cetaphil lotion mixed together for Kieran's eczema. We like to use aquaphor instead of the Vaseline though.
When DD's skin gets really bad we use a prescription steroid cream on the extremely dry areas. We also use aquaphor, and we've found that we like Curel Itchy Skin Relief (also endorsed by the Eczema Association) more than Aveeno...it seems to work better for us.

When my DD and I have really rough dry skin we turn to AmLactin to help and it was suggested to me by my allergist. And I don't like to put lotion do to my skin always feeling greasey and this absorbs well.

Re: Toddlers with super dry skin areas
Aquaphor works really well on DS's dry rashy areas.
