When you use albuteral/xeopenox in the nebulizer do you also use the pulmicort at the same time? like mixing them both in the same treatment or one after the other?
I've heard mixed reviews about this. DS has Pulmicort and Xeopenox (he was on Albuteral but had a reaction to it). We give him the Pulmicort twice a day and then we do his Xeopenox at different times just to be safe.
I asked my pharmacist if I could mix the two. He said we could and it wouldn't be a problem. We use albuterol not xopenex I don't know if that makes a difference.

The thought behind doing them seperately is that you give the bronchodilator first (Albuterol or Xopenex) to open the lungs, which would then allow the steriod (Pulmicort) to get deeper into the lungs to fight inflammation.
That being said, at the hospital we tend to give them together (especially if they are just maintainance doses) because we can give a concentrated dose of Albuterol which shortens the length of the treatments, which means patients are more likely to take the full treatment.
Personally if my DC is REALLY wheezing, I will seperate them out, but if you are just giving a maintainance dose do whatever works easiest for you child.
