Yesterday at work around 3pm I noticed that my feet and ankles were SO swollen, I seriously had canckles which I have never had before and my feet were puffing out of my shoes like marshmellows (I had on comfy slipper style shoes w/ my slacks yesterday too).
I called my OB office to talk to my nurse, and she said they wanted to check my blood pressure and to come in, so I left work and when I got there my bood pressure was 158/88 this is WAY high, I have very, very low blood pressure (pg or not). So of course my mind automatically goes to Pre-E..the nurse was a total hag and scared me. She said "Go pee in a cup so I can test for protein then come back so I can retake you blood pressure cause it looks like you are going to L&D tonight..(cue huge freak out...like that will help my blood pressure). It was still high when they retested, but they saw no protein in my urine which was good. She checked baby on doppler and he was great 150hb and kicking and moving a ton!! Combined with the way my feet and ankles looked though they sent me home to get DH and head to L&D for monitoring.
I piac again for them at the hospital, they did blood work, hooked me up to the machines to monitor baby and my blood pressure every 10 minutes and run a bunch of labs.. We got a sneak peek of little man on an u/s too couldn't believe how big he was, everything looked perfect with him.
They kept me for 3 hours, all labs came back normal, no protein in my urine, and by the time I left my bp was super low. So we are not really sure what happened. I didn't have a stressful day at all...I didn't eat abnormal amounts of sodium..and I was drinking a ton of water. So now I have to go back to check w/ my OB to check bp in a week, and they are going to monitor me more closely now.
So, so glad our baby is ok...I was freaked out with visions of preterm labor flying through my head last night...it was so scary. My ankles are back to normal this morning so that's a relief. This makes 2 hospital trips for me now this pregnancy...I would like our next one to be around 3.28 when it's time for him to safely arrive please!!!! Is it March yet?!?!

I've had pregnancy induced hypertension since the beginning with this LO. At 18 weeks they started talking about Pre-E. Which is way, way too early. Then they made me do at 24hr urine while I had a UTI (did I mention that this was at 18 weeks - too early to diagnose Pre-E? Yeah, I mentioned it to them and they ignored me!)
The result: They threw the test out because it was inaccurate, but are still lying to me and saying they are using it as a benchmark. Benchmark my right toe!
I say all this to say that doctors are so in the habit of making women panic for no good reason. Swelling is not even used as a main diagnostic for Pre-E anymore because it's a really bad indicator for it. AND, blood pressure goes up and down for so many reasons, it's hard to pinpoint why. BOO on them for assuming you had Pre-E and scaring you like that.
