January 2012 Moms

The stranger comment I am so over!

Strangers always ask when I am due (which I am sure you all get asked as well). Of course I always tell them, which is January 22.  Then the comment: "Oh well, I think it should be January (insert random date) because that is (my/my sons/my daughters) birthday".

Yes, I want my baby to share a birthday with some stranger that I will never see again because that is so special and meaningful. I will make sure that I will always tell my baby the story of how he/she shares their birthday with some random person I saw at Walmart or Safeway. Thank you for sharing that wonderful little anecdote with me!

I don't know why it annoys me so much, but it does. Grrr

Re: The stranger comment I am so over!

  • My mother in law does this and it pisses me off.

I'm due Jan 7th (I don't think I'll make it that long... we may be looking at a Dec baby).

For some reason she insists he'll be late... as in her birthday which is Jan 16.

OK number 1... yes you're son (my DH) was 2 weeks late.  Luckily for me, my OB has already said they won't let me go that long.  Number 2... yes I want my son to share his birthday with you so you can brag to everyone how he was born on your birthday and make it all about you.  I want my son to have his own birthday to celebrate that can be all about HIM thank you.

Seriously... how selfish can you be?  (Never mind the fact that she didn't want to get the flu shot because it would cost her 30 bucks because she has no insurance so DH and I paid for it and haven't gotten a thank you... this is your grandsons health we are talking about here!  AND she can't afford to fly to where we live to see LO when he's born so HER birthday gift is that WE are paying for her to fly out here AND stay with us in our tiny apt. to see HER grandson...  yeah... It would be nice to get a thank you... )

  • HA HA HA If I heard that from anyone I would be annoyed by it to!

The only comment I've gotten wasn't from a stranger, a co-worker comes up to me and rubs my belly (she's also pregnant) and says don't you hate it when people do that?  I said no because it doesn't happen that often, she said it was probably because I scared people... Thanks, now I'm a scary pregnant lady UGH!

  • I know huh??!!!

I am due on Jan 23rd... and I have people comment that maybe I'll have a Christmas baby...  what??? who wishes to have their baby 1 month early?

I just laugh and say" I hope not since that would be a bit early, ha ha ha"

  • I get this all the time too! It kind of annoys me as well, but not as much as some other comments. I guess its just their way of making conversation and trying to find some common ground or something. It annoys me more when its a date after my due date...like yes, I'm just gonna cross my legs and keep him in there even longer so it can fall on that particular date.

  • That is annoying.
I'm lucky; I haven't gotten any comments that irritate me during either pregnancy, except a few of the "you should have the baby on this date" ones. Especially if it's after my due date! But people mean well, they're just clueless :-)

  • I hate this!

When my SIL found out we're due January 4th she said I "had" to have him in December so I can claim him on my taxes. She also said she was so annoyed for my BIL and his wife because they had their baby the morning of January 1st and they were "so close" to being able to claim him...my nephew was born like a month early and she was annoyed that he didn't come out just a little bit sooner?!

My boss and the HR lady both told me to hold him in as long as possible because if he's born too close to Christmas he'll resent me for the rest of his life for ruining his birthday because those kids get less presents...I'm not exaggerating, that's how they phrased it. The HR lady even went on to tell me all about her daughter who was born in December and all her problems and how they all stemmed from growing up angry about her birthday.

My sister is coming home for Christmas (she lives in Oregon) and leaving before my due date and she told me I have to make sure I have him before she leaves.

I have 2 friends with birthdays in January who tell me every time I talk to them that I have to have him on their birthday.

And then of course everyone else tells me to have a Christmas baby because they think it would be cute.

So yea...I feel your pain :)

I want her to have her own day to celebrate, not be forever tied in celebrating the same day as one of her family members or a family friend. She is due January 21st and right now I have people pulling for like 10 other days in January! Where did all of these Jan B-days come from???

Omg this too! The 22nd is the only "unclaimed" day left in January in both mine and DHs family. I kind of have my heart set on it. I don't want LO to have to share. Not even with me which is the 11th! Lol.

  • Oh I hear you!!!

DHs coworker said she was hoping I would deliver tomorrow (mind you I'm only 34w) b/c the nicest person she knows is born on that day!

But I also hear from so many peple how I should have my baby on their b-day or how I should use their name or middle name for my girl's middle name since we haven't picked one yet.

Uhm really?!?! Do people use their brains ever??

  • Hahahaha~

In my case, the pressure is coming from the ILs to cross my legs and hold baby in for an extra 8 days.  Why?  Because I'm due the 15th, and CHINESE NEW YEAR starts the 23rd.

If I have the baby before the 23rd, its a plain old Rabbit Boy.

If I have the baby after the 23rd, it's ::insert sparkles here:: DRAGON BOY ::insert sparkles here::

I wouldn't mind having my baby Dec 31 because I think it would be a cool birthday, but enough of the tax thing people!!  I mean, you get the deduction and then you don't have to pay taxes on that amount right?  So basically you save about $300?  I am not that concerned about $300 where I need to worry about my baby being born before the end of the year.  So annoying.

And the Christmas comment too.  Super annoying.  My husband grew up not celebrating Christmas or birthdays because of his religion and he is one of the happiest, most well adjusted people I have ever met.  He is not self absorbed enough where he goes around with a chip  on his shoulder for the rest of his life becuase the world didn't revolve around him for an entire day.  It's just a birthday people!   We all have them...they are not THAT big of a deal!

LMAO! I'm due the 23rd and both my brother and H are Dragon boys. Now my bro is married to a Chinese woman so he's all into that BS now and is hoping my girl will be born 23rd or later so she can be a Dragon, too! hahaha

she said it was probably because I scared people...

    this cracked me up!

  • I prefer to hear it from strangers than from my ILs or co-workers for some strange reason :)  Maybe it's b/c I am not hearing it over and over from the strangers and instead my DH's gma says it all the time.  I am actually HOPING this baby isn't born 2 days early on her bday.  Finally the last time she posted this on my FB wall (last week) I wrote "Only God has a say in when this baby is coming at this point".. Lol.  it's a little blunt but I was hoping it would shut her up. It's not like I have any say in when this baby is coming!!

  • I am so sick of the, you are not making it to your due date comments, or the are you sure you are not having twins.  Yes, I have a big stomach, and I am one of the lucky ones who has only gained weight in my stomach, but back off people.

  • I haven't had much of this. I only know a few people born in January, and one of them is my niece who is turning 1 this year. I don't think any of us want them sharing a bday.

But I am sick of the comments on my belly. Most people tell me I'm little, but Sat, one of my friends who I haven't seen in a while rubs it and goes man, your about to pop. Ya. Whatever. No, I'm really not.

Is it weird that I think it would be AWESOME to have a Superbowl baby?? I mean, I don't wanna go almost 2 weeks past my EDD, but I still think that'd be pretty cool lol

I'm due the 25th -- Hubbs biggest fear is that we will be in the hospital anywhere near the super bowl -- even his friends are in on it -- not jokingly... they are serious... BOYS! lol

HAHAHA!  My parents are the exact same way.  They tell me about how people purposely plan their babies to be dragon babies, and how fortunate I would be if I got one!

As far as people discussing the birth date of them, their kids, or what have you, it doesn't bother me one bit... they're just trying to be nice and make conversation.
