Ms. Piggy as a female role model/feminist

https://networkedblogs.com/rwTAA

"As far as I am concerned, Ms. Piggy is one of the strongest female characters in popular culture in the past 50-odd years. Piggy proves, time and again, that she is a strong, confident woman who can go toe-to-toe.. or snout-to-snout with anyone else."

  • Yuck.  All she proves is that obnoxious, loud-mouthed pigs make me not want to watch the Muppets.

  • lol, DnD. Honestly, it's been so long since I've seen the Muppets that I don't really have an impression of her either way.

  • forfucksake.  Really?  We can't find REAL female role models?  Jessica Lynch?  Hilary Clinton?  Michelle Obama?  Oprah?  Jackee Joyner Kersee?  (probably spelling her name wrong).  Princess Diana?

Umm yah!  Someone who has been chasing around the same guy (err frog) for the past how many years after being rejected how many times is a role model?  I don't think so.  It is time to let go and move on there pig!

that seems like a good point.

  • Ew, no.  Clearly the person defining her as such believes that all feminists are whiny, obnoxious, loud-mouths.  Fantastic.

  • i was agreeing with ashley, but i think the whole article is worth reading, since this is her response to comments after the first time she made the claim.

it's worth it anyway for this:

"From a 1979 People magazine article: ?According to [Frank] Oz, Miss Piggy?s father chased after other sows, and her mother had so many piglets she never found time to develop her mind. ?I?ll die before I live like that!? Miss Piggy screamed, and ran away to the city. Life was hard at first. People got all the jobs; pigs had to take what was left. To keep going, Miss Piggy walked a sandwich board for a barbecue stand. Desperate, she took a stage name, Laverne, and entered a beauty contest. She won and got her big break: a bacon commercial. This led to a season as mascot for a local TV sportscast called Pigskin Parade ? and then on to The Muppet Show.?

    never saw that before!
