HI ladies,
I posted yesterday that I was exposed to the fifth disease and based on your recs I called the doc. Well I'm glad I did! They said they take this, typcially harmless viral infection, during pregnancy VERY seriously as it can be really dangerous for the unborn baby at any stage of pregnancy.
So I'm doing blood work today and then in 2 weeks (that's how long it takes from exposure until it shows up) and then they will also do a high risk U/S. The scary part is that it causes anemia and that then causes water buildup around the baby which is very dangerous. But we are hopeful that I'm immune. I'm trying not to stress out but how can you not be worried about your baby ![]()
To top it off my supervisor, who's daughter has the infection, comes this morning and complains to me how she had a fight with her H b/c both her kids are sick and they couldn't figure out who should stay home with them and how stressful her life is and that now this scare with me is just adding additional stress to her already crazy life. And she cries! Ya thanks lady, how do you think I feel right now not knowing if my baby is safe?!?!? And I was so nice to her and told her not to worry about me for right now. I could have blown up and went to HR like some other people would have done since you are not supposed to bring your kids to work in the first place. Also, this will actually cost me $$ b/c only routine prenatal checkups are covered the rest I have to pay myself and a high risk u/s is EXPENSIVE! So I hope I'm not being a biotch but her complaint to me about this really ticked me off b/c I have bigger problems right now.
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that it really is important to let your doc know right away should you be exposed to this virus. It's no joke at ANY time during pregnancy.
Re: Fifth Disiease F/U
Thanks!
Yikes, that's pretty awful of her to vent about her stress to you. She obviously doesn't understand what it's doing to you...
Glad you talked to the doctor and they're taking care of everything. I'll pray that your little one is perfectly fine.
Oh yeah! Technically it would be workers comp since i got it at work.. Thanks! i'll look into it
