How is Caroline doing? How is the pumping going? I know you've had a rough week and I wanted to check in with you.

Re: ::GatorNurse::

  • Hi! Thanks so much for checking in with me, that is so nice! I haven't been on in a few days, trying to decorate for Christmas, catch up on laundry, and we had our baby shower! :)  It was a very emotional day for my husband and I but we were blessed with SO many gifts and we feel much more prepared to "have a baby" now than we were before! lol

    Caroline is doing GREAT! She is down to 1 liter of O2 on her nasal cannula, and up to 25 ml per feeding. They have discontinued all of her TPN & Lipids, and she is up to 2 lb 15 oz and 15.5 inches long! They moved her this morning from the A side of the NICU (where the sickest babies are) to the B side (feeder/grower side) which thrilled us! Yesterday was her 2 week birthday, so we are so SO happy that she is doing so well. We can only pray that she continues to thrive!!

    Still pumping as much as possible, as close to every 2 hours as I can get. It does seem that my supply is increasing somewhat, albeit slowly, but I am sticking with it as long as I can! I spoke to a friend who is a LC and she was very encouraging.

     Thanks again for checking on me!

  • Your update made me so happy! I've been thinking about you lots.

    It sounds like Caroline is doing great-congrats on moving to the B side! That's a huge step! And from everything else you've said, she seems to be on a great track for feeding/growing and learning to eat. Good job Caroline!

    I cried on and off throughout my baby shower-it was just such an emotional thing to have a baby in the NICU and be at a shower for you. In some ways a special way to celebrate and in others such a reminder of how everything went against your plan. I'm glad yours was a good day and you got so many nice things!

    And congrats on the pumping. You are doing awesome to do every 2 hours still-what a huge commitment. Have you asked about doing some non-nutrative (practice) breastfeeding now that Caroline is taking feeds?  Make sure the neos all know you want to BF so they give you lots of opportunities to practice.

    Keep us posted!

  • Oh, trust me, I cried before/during/after the shower, lol. I think my husband got choked up too! It was hard, esp when one girl said "at least you don't have a big pregnant belly to get around while opening gifts!" and I thought, man I would have LOVED that.  :(

     I'm not saying I always hit every 2 hours, but its my goal. My supply still isnt great, but I did start taking fenugreek yesterday so hopefully that'll help some too!

    Caroline still has her OJ tube so she is getting her feedings through that, but one of the nurses did mention starting practice BF in the next week or two. She'll be 31 weeks tomorrow!
