What about.....

Ok...just another dumb question.

Why do people think its funny to say: "I have the perfect name for your baby! You should use (Insert Their Name)!"

Like as if i want to name my kid after my stupid mailman! I have to hear him say that almost everyday! WTF!? Or just about almost any man that comes in my office. "do you have a name yet? You should use my name! Its a great name. your husband wont mind!"

ok vent over

  • My husband just received another email from his grandma the other day with a name suggestion.  Not the first time, and it's all she sends.  No accompanying letter, just a name.  First and middle.

    Ugh.

  • I don't know, but it's extremely irritating. There was a guy at work who kept telling me "Matthew is a great name for a boy! It means 'Gift from God.'" ::barf:: Matthew was HIS name. WTFvck would I name my son after a fat old man with a hillbilly accent and barely a high school education? NO.

  • I had someone suggest "Shelby" when I was a mere 12 weeks pregnant. I had met her the day before. It was weird. Shelby's a fine name and all, but it is NMS. I just politely told her we'd add it to the list and see how we felt later. We added it to the list...and promptly crossed it off!

  • My students love to give me name rec's, but they are 8, so it's still cute and funny.  Adults on the other hand, not so much.

As a substitute teacher I get name suggestions often as well. But I prefer the suggestions from the younger kids rather than the older ones. I did run some of my options by some of my students from last year to get some honest opinions.

  • My brothers have chimed in with names.

This weekend I got a text from one that said the baby should just be named Fegan, my maiden name, without mine and my husband's surname.  This is even more preposterous, as my parent's dog is named Fagin (pronounced the same way).  There is no way this bub is going to be named, a la Indiana Jones, after the dog.

Also to get another one off my back, if my son is 1 month and 7 days late (rolls eyes), I promised that his name will be James Eric William James Stephen Charles. Basically my brother James (hence his use of it twice in the suggestion) and my DH Steve were both both born on the same date in May.  Eric and William are my other two brothers and Charles is the family middle name of the first son on my DH's side.  Nice of the stinkers to accommodate family tradition.  LMAO.

The date thing could backfire though, as the youngest, Eric, who has yet to suggest a name was born on April 9th.  No way am I making that same promise to him...lol

  • Everyone gave me a hard time over Pnina's name...so I told them it was either Pnina or $hithead (it's an actual name pronounced She-thed)...then they shut up..haha

I went to highschool with a guy names $hithead, the first day the teacher was calling role, and well she threw down her folder and cursed. "Okay who the fvck wrote $hithead as thier first name?" He stood up and said, my name is pronounced She-thead dumb @ss. It was really funny.

  • Luckily my husband and I had already chosen the name Austin James if it was a boy...Now if it was a girl on the other hand-we were still unsure-and it was a boy :) So we didn't have to worry about it...

  • If my MIL suggests the name Luke Walker to me one more time I might drive to PA just to tell her to shut up to her face. (DS calls the baby Luke Skywalker) She also tells me that we need to name the baby after her family b/c it would mean so much to her. Well What about my family? It would mean alot to them if we named him after someone in my family too. I just want the txt msgs and fb msgs to stop already!

According to Think Baby Names it's a variation of Penina.

  • Yeah, it's cute when my 3 year old niece thinks we should name the baby after her, but grown adults should know better. That's why we made it perfectly from the very beginning that we have a name already thankyouverymuch.

Agree, my cousins are ten and as soon as I told them they went home and wrote a huge list of baby names, they did really well actually. They had our top boys name down and our runner up girls name that I still want to use for future LO :) I love them!

My students are 11 and do the same thing, it's really cute.  But I agree, not so cute with adults.  I actually had a student of mine from last year who, when she found out we were having a boy, went home and printed out a list of boy names, highlighted the ones she liked and added some that weren't on the list.  It was very cute and sweet :)

  • From adults, I agree it can be annoying.  However kids are another story.

When we found out about LO my niece (3 yrs old) told me if its a girl I should name her Princess Cinderella and if its a boy I should name him Handsome Prince.  I am pretty sure the poor kid would be made fun of either way.

Lol, I teach 12 year olds once a week at church and the girls are always asking if we've come up with a name and giving suggestions.  The latest and greatest was Easton Weston. Stick out tongue
