A customer today asked me what I was having and when I said a girl her response was...im sorry. I didn't even know what to say, who would ever say something like that?

Unless her teenage daughter was standing there having a hissy fit in plain view there is absolutely no way that that statement is even remotely funny or appropriate. What a weirdo.

this was my first thought too... that maybe she has a terror of a teenage daughter! haha.
I would have been snarky and responded with "Yes, I'm really looking forward to having my little girl."
I've gotten the 'I'm sorry' when I told people I was having a boy, but it was from people I knew who had little boys who were a handful. Honestly though, a kid is going to be a handful every now and then no matter the gender or age. Kids will be kids.
Wow.. I'd probably just smile & say something like, "I just hope she doesn't turn out as rude as you." or something. Some people don't think before they speak!

wow that's really odd. why would she even say that? Am I missing part of the story? And why would you ask someone the sex of their kid if your response will be anything than joyous for them!?
Wow that is completely rude and I agree with pp, very odd!
There is a man at the dog park who I am now careful to avoid because EVERY time I see him he tells me how I'm SO lucky to be having a boy because he has 6 kids (both girls and boys) and boys are SO much better. Then he tells everyone else at the park too. Infront of his daughters. I don't get it?! I would have loved to have had a daughter, and love that I am having a son! I hope someday I will have one of each... and to say that infront of your preteen daughters - wtf?
