PIP: what kind of rash is this on my babys face....

DS has had normal baby acne for a few weeks and then recently got some rough red small bumps on his forehead that seems to be spreading and getting worse. Now its red and rough and splotchy  I dont know if this is dermatitis or some allergy.  He doesnt have a fever or seem to be in pain, but it looks Nasty...any ideas?  Ill call or go to the doc tomorrow?  I also feel like it appaeared or got worse after his vaccinations last week, but may be totally unrelated.imageimage" mce_src="image">

Re: PIP: what kind of rash is this on my babys face....

  • That looks like an allergic reaction to something IMO-- are you BFing? Have you eaten anything new or unusual lately? If its not an allergic reaction it could possibly be an eczema flare up-- DS has eczema and occasionally gets small patches on his face that look a little like that but his tends to be dryer/rougher looking.

  • My DS had eczema on his face that started out as your son's rash did. It looked similar to your pic for a day or 2 before taking on the dry appearance more typical of eczema. Please let us know what your pediatrician says-and good luck!

ETA: is it just on his face/head?

  • agree w/allergic reaction.  I have super sensitive skin and this is what my skin looks like when I have one.  Did you change soaps, lotions, or detergents lately?  I would call dr and see if you can use cortisone10 or something.
  • Please let us know what the doctor says. My daughter has this but not as severe. The doc said baby acne but that was before it got rashy looking and dry.

  • Looks like blotchy, dry skin to me.  Are you by chance overwashing because of the acne therefore causing dryness?  Allergic reactions would be more diffuse as opposed to this localized rash.

  • I def dont over wash--I use warm water to wipe his face off every day.  On the days he bathes (ussually twice a week, I use california baby body wash which is better and less harsh than some soaps....but I dont really even put soap directly on his face.

As far as diet--not really.  My diet is fairly consistent.  It may have been worse in that picture as the stupid on call RN said to try aquaphor which probably made it worse.  I do BF

I didj put some california baby lotion on there a tony bit last week...but wouldnt it be better by now even if he was reacting to the lotion?  Oh, and its only on his forhead and brow really. The pic makes it look flat and blotchy, but its actually rough to the touch.  poor kid.   Someone on another board mention contact dermatitis and I may need a cortisone or steriod cream.  Ill ask the doc tomorrow.
