NT Scan - should DH come?

I am having an NT Scan done this Thursday. Should DH come with me? I saw posts that some learn the sex during. DH has been with me at 10 and 12-week u/s (I was high risk) - not sure if he should come to this one too?

Re: NT Scan - should DH come?

  • YES!!!  Even if you don't get the sex determined you will have plenty of viewing of the baby!  We got to watch our baby bounce around and suck it's thumb for almost 30 min.  He definitely should go.

  • It's really unlikely that you'll find out the sex at the NT scan (some techs will guess, but even then it's really just a guess), but I'm still bringing my DH. It's a longer u/s and he likes to see them :)

  • Yes! I threw a FIT when mfm gave me an ultrasound when my husband wasnt there. They recorded it for me :) I totally understand dhs not going to every single appt but every u/s is what we're going with.

  • I would want him to come.  God forbid, but if it looked like something were wrong, I would want him there for support.
  • It was a wonderful experience.  DH would have been sad if he missed that.

  • Of course he should come! This is someone special that you and your hubby are bringing into this world. Also, a wonderful moment for the both of you to enjoy and experience together. It is something that I think that every spouse should attend. Also, if something isn't right (which everything will be fine God willing), then you will have someone there for support, and that he will need to know anyways. So, in other words, tell him he has no option and that he's going.

  • I agree with all the other ladies that if your husband can come, then by all means he should.   However, my DH didn't come to mine and will only be able to make to my a/s scan at 18 weeks, due to his work schedule -- and its fine.  I've gotten print-outs to bring him from my other ultrasounds and I haven't even heard the heart-beat yet (just pictures, no sound, so far), so he hasn't missed on anything in that regard.  Of course, I'd love it if he came, but I do understand and it really hasn't been the end of the world to go solo.  God forbid if I got bad news, but I'd call him right away and he'd be right there with me ASAP, so even that would be fine.

Just throwing my experience out there, so that any other ladies' whose partners can't make it to all their appointments don't feel like they're the only ones.  :)

  • It's so funny that some had a longer US at this visit....mine was all business! Neck measurement and that was it!  I had a longer one at 8 and 10 weeks.  My DH couldn't come and it was ok because they don't tell you the results of the bloodwork+measurement for about a week anyway.  My tech would also not guess gender.  But I go back next Thursday and DH will definitely be at that visit!Smile

  • Thank you, everyone, for your input! DH will be joining me! I had no idea what to expect (I choose to not look stuff up too far in advance - just keeps me up worrying at night if I do). I guess after reading the last post the only question I have - and will be answered tomorrow AM - is how long will it really be and will I get cool pics to add to the collection? LOL!
