My trip to L&D and bedrest

I had to go to l&d last night b/c my blood pressure was 170/104 and wasn't showing any signs of going down. I could barely walk from all the swelling in my feet. Let's just say that I won't be going back to l&d unless things get REALLLLLY bad. There were no triage beds available. I had to wait in the waiting area for 2.5 hours before we were taken back.

They did labs for preeclampsia (again) and everything looked good. They sent me home and I had a follow up appointment with my doctor today. While I was hooked up to the monitors last night, I was having contractions 4 minutes apart and lasting for about a minute each. However, they were not really strong contractions. At least I know for sure that those twinges and pangs that I have been feeling are indeed contractions.

So at my appointment today my doctor wrote me out of work. He feels confident that getting me off my feet will help keep my bp under control until the baby arrives. He did an internal and I am softened and about 50% effaced and haven't started to dilate yet.

I am going to try to enjoy my time at home but I wasn't really ready to leave work just yet. I didn't even get to tell my students goodbye. I may have to sneak a trip into the classroom just to tell them goodbye.

Will do! I have my next apt tomorrow so fingers crossed that we get some more good progress news! Ill just be happy if she dropped to a lower station though. Im pretty satisfied with 2cm and 75% for the time being, but Ill gladly be happy with more change if my body decides to go there haha.

  • I could have written this exact story three weeks ago.  My doctor decided to induce me at 38w2d because nothing seemed to get my bp down.  Getting DJ out did help, it's back down to pretty normal levels :)  Enjoy your time, though after about 6 hours to taking it easy I was ready to get up and get going.  Sleep as much as possible!

Thanks! My bp seems to go down when I get off my feet. We'll see how it does over the long haul. I am sure I will be bored since DH will of course be at work. It will give me some time to catch up on some reading. :)
