Pregnant after a Loss

Any PgAL & PCOS ladies??

Hey ladies,

I'm normally still on the M/C board, but I'm having a "down" day. I'm just barely 4 weeks past d&e, and the OB said to expect first period 4-6 weeks, but I'm not feeling hopeful. See with PCOS, I hardly get my period and even hardly every ovulate, the two pregnancies (DD & m/c) were two of few successful months. I just feel like there's so much ahead of me still and it's overwhelming. Just looking for happy stories here. TIA.

Just remember if you hit 60 days to call your OB to discuss bringing your period on medically. Try out temping and using OPK's to help you with O time. Temping will be your biggest friend to confirm O because with PCOS you can surge but not O.

I understand. There are many who move to PgAL with PCOS, don't let it get you down too bad! We're always here for support.

  • Me!!

I'm sorry you're having a rough day.  It sucks when you're TTC because you feel like you're not even getting a chance each month.  I have totally been there.  Luckily, you're charting, and that always helped me at least feel like I was doing what I could.

FWIW, I've only ovulated three times in the year and a half before I got pregnant this time, and two of those times we conceived - our loss and this current one. It can be done!  I still struggle sometimes, but try to stay positive.  Everyone on the loss boards is really supportive and helpful, and I hope things start looking up for you soon!  Message me if you ever need to chat or just vent!

  • I'm not a Pgal and PCOS, but I just wanted to tell you I'm so sorry you're having a bad day and that I'm thinking of you.

  • I was dx with PCOS in Dec 2010, had a fluke ovulation right after dx, got pregnant, and then miscarried.  My OB had me seeing an RE as soon as she suspected PCOS.  (Thankfully my OB is super proactive.)  Have you seen an RE?

About a month to 6w after my m/c I met with my RE again.  We discussed what I wanted.  My OB suggested waiting two cycles before trying again (which terrified me because I hadn't had cycle that wasn't medically induced in 6 mos), but said if it happened before then it should be fine.  My RE said there really is no medical need to wait.  She prescribed me progesterone, and my first period started about 6 weeks after my D&C.  During that cycle we used Clomid, and even though I had great follicles, I don't think I ovulated b/c I never started my period.  Another Rx of progesterone, started Clomid CD3-7, two great follicles on CD12, trigger shot on CD14, and I was pregnant with twins.

I tried temping, but I really struggled with it.  I wish I had started when I went off birth control rather than trying after I had m/c, because I think that I was just too impatient to really rely on that system.  Plus, when I was on Clomid my RE was scanning to see if I had good follicles, and with the trigger shot if I didn't ovulate then I have no idea what my RE would have done...

If you haven't already seen an RE I would encourage you to advocate for a referral.  OB is a broad specialization.  I look at it like this, if you had a serious heart condition you would go to a cardiologist, not just your general practitioner.  Same thing.  You deserve the highest level of care.

  • I'm another PGAL with PCOS girl.  I'm sorry you are having a rough day.  It took me 8 weeks to get my first post-D&C AF.  Strangely enough I O'd on my own the next cycle and we conceived, but I ended up with an early loss.  After that I started seeing a RE and was put on Metformin, Clomid w/HCG trigger, baby aspirin, and progesterone post O.  I absolutely believe that I would either not be pregnant with this LO, or I would have had another loss without the medical intervention.

Have you worked with an RE at all?  I wish you the very best of luck and hope that you get to join us here soon.  ((Big HUGS))

  • I was dx with PCOS in Jan 2010 and was put on metformin.  I lost about 30 pounds and got pregnant in May.  That pregnancy ended in a d&c at 9 weeks due to a blighted ovum.  I was so depressed that I stopped taking my metformin and gained all my weight back.  In Jan of this year, I finally got my act together again, started back on the metformin, lost 20 pounds and nothing was happening so I started going to a fertility clinic in April.  I did one month of cycle monitoring and got a BFP on May 18.  Needless to say I was terrified but I am 34 weeks today and getting ready to meet my beautiful daughter in just over a month.  Be proactive and listen to your gut.  Mine was telling me for months to go to a fertility clinic and when I finally did just that, I got pregnant the next month.  Good luck.
