Washing princess & dress-up costumes?

I've got an Ariel one with ten billion sequins, some winged-costumes (and the wings don't come off, grrr!) and some shiny, silky others. Would you wash these on delicate cycle or hand wash? I will ruin my daughter's life if I mess up her dress-up costumes!

Re: Washing princess & dress-up costumes?

  • I would hand wash them. I haven't had to wash my daughters yet, but being a former baton twirler the rule was always hand wash if the costume had sequins or any kind of embellishment. So I would just stick to that rule.

  • I would just hand wash them if you have too. How dirty are they? Ours don't really leave the house, so they have stayed pretty clean.  If you hand wash them, I'd probably just put a little dishsoap on a rag and scrub any really dirty spots, and then maybe rinse them in some water and drip dry.  Good Luck!

  • Hand wash and hang to dry or lay out on a drying rack

  • I'd hand wash them..

That said, DD got her Tangled dress crazy nasty dirty and I decided the only way to save it was to throw it in the wash...I did on delicate, then hung dry and it ended up being just fine thankfully :)

Not visibly dirty, she has just worn them a lot and I feel like they could stand to be washed at some point. Maybe I'm being OCD about this and I should just leave them alone.

  • Unless they smell or something, I'd probably just leave them alone.  Especially the ones that you could end up destroying in the wash, she'd be devastated.

  • I hand wash my daughter's. Even things like chocolate milk and spaghetti sauce come out easily because of the fabric. I just wash it in cold, then add a little powdered detergent, rub, then let soak for a bit. Rinse with cold, hang to dry.
