Please rec your alarm system provider!

Sorry for post-whoring, it could be the Vicodin....

Anyway, the house next door to us was broken into during the day last week, so I'm officially freaked.  I thought our neighborhood was pretty safe, but dh is finally on board with looking at activating our alarm system.

Our house came already wired and set up, I think all we would need to do is get someone to activate it.  We don't have a home phone, do you still have to have one to get an alarm system activated?

So could you recommend some one? And if you wouldn't mind giving me an estimate of how much it ran per month that would be awesome.  TIA!

Re: Please rec your alarm system provider!

  • We have ADT. We have never had to really use it, but the few times we set things off accidentally they have been really responsive.

We did have to install a land line - we use it for the fax and don't actually have a phone.

I believe it's around $40/month. We also have to pay a fee to the APD alarm unit, but it's just once a year and maybe $30. I still don't know why or what it's for.

  • I went with Sloan Security based on another nestie's recommendation (I can only remember her real name right now, and I don't want to put that here!), and have been really happy with their service.

My pricing would be different than yours, since my house was not pre-wired, but the monitoring fee for me is $120/year.  I do have a land line I only use for the alarm, but they told me they could work with me if I wanted to use VOIP or one of the other non-land line options.

  • Hi! We had sloan install our alarm a few weeks ago when our garage was robbed. This recommendation came from other bumpies.

Here is their site, it includes prices. https://sloansecurity.com/

BTW I sent you a PM.

  • Guardian. I think it's around $40/mo. The installer left kind of a mess when he rigged the windows, but it sounds like you are already all set with that. You can negotiate with the sales guys - I think I got like 3 free months just by signing on that day.
  • Ps - no landline needed.
  • Another vote for Sloan.  We've had them for two years.  Luckily, we haven't had to use them but we haven't had any issues either and it's very affordable.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Another vote for Sloan.  Only $120 a year and never had a single problem with them.

  • We had sloan at our old house and were very happy with it. I think it was $12 a month or so, but you pay for the full year up front.
