Fetal "kicks" question

So, due to an anterior placenta, I haven't really felt the baby yet (doc said hopefully by Christmas!). I *thought* I felt it once about a month ago (early, I know) and I still think that's what I felt, I just never felt it again. Well, 2 nights ago, when I laid down with my belly pressed against my kidney bean pillow, I started feeling weird feelings like little pockets of air exploding. Baby or gas? I don't know. This morning I felt the same thing again. I'm trying to figure out if it could be the baby, so my question is this: Everyone always talks about feeling the baby kick, but do you feel both kicks and punches? Because the feelings I had this morning were several inches apart from each other. This is probably a silly question, but humor me. Embarrassed

Re: Fetal "kicks" question

  • Yeah, I felt movement all over my abdomen--sometimes it seemed impossible that it could be coming from all sides, but it does!

I also had an anterior placenta with DS and didn't really start feeling what I knew was movement til about 22 weeks. DH could feel it outside my belly at 24 weeks.

  • Yep.  And you'll get to a point where you can feel every movement (and you will be able to tell if it's a hand or foot hitting you).  So you definitely could have been feeling kicks and punches.  Or baby could have been kicking you with both feet.

  • And eventually you'll feel head butts and hip checks, too. And knees. Knees are fun.

  • Ok, thanks! So I guess fetal kicks is a huge misnomer. I'm starting to think this may be baby I'm feeling then. I'm really hoping DH can feel it by Christmas. He has such a sad puppy dog look on his face when I say that I think I'm feeling something and he can't feel it.

  • bubbles popping is a common description of the first "kick" feelings. I bet that's what it is!
