Pinterest question

Confession.  I don't get it.

Where are you pinning stuff from?  Websites you look at regularly?  Or are we supposed to browse around Pinterest, stealing pins from each other?

Is there some sort of Pinning etiquette? Can you just take something from a random stranger?

Re: Pinterest question

  • Since I am clearly a pinterest expert (coughcough), I can tell you that I have pinned both from the web and stealing others' pins. I basically use it as a catalogue of things that I would be bookmarking. So it's like being able to keep all your bookmarks sorted by content and in one place. With notes. And I have pinned from random strangers.

  • While I browse other people's ideas occasionally, I mainly like to use it in place of where I would have gone and added a link to my favorites before.  I love using it for pics of recipes I want to make, clothing/fashion ideas, and just general design stuff from some of the blogs I frequent.  I find it much easier to scroll through my pics then to go through the list of favorites and find the one I was looking for.

  • I use it a lot for recipes and it's basically the only place for recipes now. That's where I store things I would like to make or have made and need to save for future use. Also party ideas for the kids.

Pinning serves a lot of different of purposes in my mind:

    1) a bookmark/favorite list on steroids (way, way, way better than a randomly-titled link in your favorites list),

    2) a small ego boost when others repin your pin (hey, someone else likes my idea! even though I liked it from someone else first!)

    3) inspiration for future projects, cooking, life, my health, my child, my husband, my family in general

    4) finding things your friends will love for themselves (tagging them when you find it)

    Ditto.

Majority of what I have pinned is stuff that I have repinned from others (both people I know and people I don't).  I do pin "new" stuff from the web from all the blogs I read - and it was a great way to send DH my Christmas wish list this year since he could physically see what it was that I wanted.
